Over the next week, I'll be previewing some standout players across all divisions of the MIAA. Though prep schools get lots of the love when it comes to basketball exposure, there is still absolutely a good amount of talent in the MIAA.

That being said, let's look at some under the radar guards.

Brigham is one of the more electric combo guards in the entire MIAA. He isn't too well known around the state (perhaps because he plays in Springfield), but he'll be one of the higher scoring guards in division 2 this season. The 6-foot-3 senior scores in a variety of ways; he's quite athletic on drives to the rim and is able to finish with both hands at the hoop, but he also shoots it well from the mid range and three. He's an excellent athlete, which allows him to excel in transition and with a head of steam. He could average over 20 per game this year and should get tons of D3 looks.

Brown is quite fun to watch with the basketball in his hands. The 6-foot-1 junior guard has the rock on a string and has some pretty insane first-step quickness. He blows by defenders with ease and has some really shifty handles and agility, and then he has every double clutch finish in the book once he gets near the hoop. He can also knock down shots from the perimeter and is a menace on the defensive end when it comes to getting in passing lanes and making life difficult for opposing ball handlers. Brown will be a key part of Charlestown High School's squad this season.

Day is another key cog in Charlestown's backcourt, and he's also quite electric with the ball in his hands. The 5-foot-10 guard is undersized, but he has incredible strength for his age/size and is a total bulldog on both ends of the floor. Though he can certainly get by defenders using his strength and speed/quickness, he's also effective at slowing down his pace and being patient in the lane. I really like how he gets to his pull up jumper and how he reads the floor once he touches the paint. Day and Brown should wreak havoc on both ends at Charlestown High School this season.

Piper's superpower is his defensive instincts and fight. At 6-foot-3 and with incredibly long arms, the senior wing is quite effective in the passing lanes and as a point of attack defender. He slides his feet very well, and he has excellent hands that are active at all times. He also reads the offense well and uses his athleticism to stifle drives. Offensively, he's a knock down mid range shooter who can finish well with both hands at the hoop. If he can improve the quickness with which he gets his shot off, he can probably find a college fit at the next level. Piper will be one of Burke's best players this season.

Loewan is a high IQ combo guard who doesn't get the recognition he likely deserves because of the fact that he plays for Georgetown High School in MIAA division 4. But the 5-foot-10 guard is very skilled as a shooter and closeout attacker and has better hops and body control at the rim than you'd think. He's able to finish with contact from larger players, and he has really nice touch with both hands. His size will likely limit his recruitment at the next level, but Loewen should still have an excellent high school season this year and could get some looks if he gets stronger/quicker.
