Though Dale Samuels won the MVP of the tournament, I think it’s pretty clear Piper was Holland’s most important player. The 6-foot-3 guard hangs at the top of their diamond press, and he does a phenomenal job using his wingspan, athleticism, instincts, and hands to get steals and overwhelm opposing guards. The senior also has an ambidextrous style to his game and therefore has the ability to finish confidently with both hands at the rim. You don’t have to run any plays for him, either; he’ll just put up numbers from steals, fast breaks, offensive rebounds, and cuts. Piper needs to improve his outside stroke and his general feel for the game/passing ability, but he could play at the next level if he does so.

Piper is a uniquely skilled MIAA guard. He’s taller than most other public school point of attack guards at 6-foot-3, but he moves quite well for his size and is super shifty with the ball in his hands. When he gets into the lane, he uses his long arms to finish, and he has an ambidextrous ability with both hands that makes him quite difficult to consistently contest, no matter how tall you are. He needs to improve his outside shot, but Piper is absolutely a D3 players because of his athleticism and finishing ability alone.

Piper, a senior wing out of Holland High School of Technology, is a talented scorer that has a high two-way motor and the ability to make plays for himself and others in transition. He’s physically strong enough to play through contact as a driver, makes tough baskets late in the clock, and is capable of finishing with either hand around the rim. On the other end of the floor, he’s physical at the point of attack, is an aggressive rebounder, and does a nice job of keeping opponents out of the paint and away from their scoring spots.

Piper’s superpower is his defensive instincts and fight. At 6-foot-3 and with incredibly long arms, the senior wing is quite effective in the passing lanes and as a point of attack defender. He slides his feet very well, and he has excellent hands that are active at all times. He also reads the offense well and uses his athleticism to stifle drives. Offensively, he’s a knock down mid range shooter who can finish well with both hands at the hoop. If he can improve the quickness with which he gets his shot off, he can probably find a college fit at the next level. Piper will be one of Burke’s best players this season.
