Eaglecrest was the state champion last season, and [player_tooltip player_id='2138429' first='Kris' last='Coleman'] was a big reason for that. He has good size, is a tenacious defender, and his versatility made it difficult for opposing guards to keep up with him. He's strong and intentional, and that lets him attack when he wants. He gets to whatever spot he wants on the floor, makes the right pass when doubles come, and is constantly moving. He scores in bunches, can take a player out of the game when he's locked in on them, and his absence will be felt for the current state champs. He steps into a spot that, if he plays, Chaparral becomes instant favorites. His impact is that strong. He had a solid summer with Mountain Stars, should get more attention this year and he makes the jump.

Akai made a rise in my personal rankings as players that I enjoy watching with the way that he's able to stay involved in a game and impact it in ways that go just beyond scoring. He reads defenses, finds gaps in the defense, and can open up the floor. It also helps that he's a microwave scoring option as well that knows when to attack. Akai had a solid summer where he turned heads with his ability to compete, but what did it for me was him coming to our showcase and battling with some of the top players in the class and proving he belongs. He can go. Liberty is a team that I will be high on this season, as they have one of the top backcourt duos in the state.

Mitchell is a bucket. It's plain and simple. If you put the ball in his hands, he's going to try and score it. He's one of the state's best athletes, and it doesn't matter if he's fresh off of football practice and walking into the gym, all eyes are on him to make a play. He's an electric scorer who gets going from all three levels. He is a downhill attacker that dares you to jump with him, he blows by defenders for easy finishes or he can also get hot from deep. We just saw him heat up at a Fall league as well as a showcase where he put up massive numbers, and that is what I expect from him this upcoming season. He makes a jump in the rankings, and we expect plenty from him this year with Cherokee Trail.

Demari is a state champ, and his sophomore season was one of growth. He had a solid group around him that played the right way, got it done on both ends of the floor, and played as a team, and that is instilled in him as he looks to take over the reins. He will take over the team as the primary ball handler that opposing teams gameplan for. He's a smooth 3-level scorer who's a creative finisher. He attacks off the dribble, reads the PnR and gets to his spots, and also can space the floor with his shooting. He can play both on and off the ball, and that versatility will open him up with one of the best play callers in the state that should make it easy for him. We saw Demari multiple times this summer, including a showcase where one thing remains constant, his ability to impact the game. He's going to have a big year and make the jump in the rankings, ready to prove more.

Yasin is one of the better two-way options in the entire state, and this summer seemed to be one of offensive growth for him, and we liked what we saw. He's now facing up and attacking with the ball, consistently knocking down shots and commanding doubles, and that is only an add-on with the type of player he already is. The balanced attack has had him be a standout in multiple tournaments and showcases that we saw from him this summer. Each time out he has looked like the guy for his team. He steps into a new situation that fits his style, will allow him to be a bit more free with the ball, and showcase his versatility. He's a player that continues to progress, and he makes a jump in the rankings after a solid season and summer.
