Our friends at Prep Hoops Next do a great job of covering the middle school scene, but admittedly we here at Prep Hoops Indiana don't really follow the prospects until they enter high school. Generally speaking, aside from a few exceptions for the very top prospects, our first viewing of any incoming freshmen would be at the Charlie Hughes Showcase in June. Then, we host our annual Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase in the fall. For this first Watch List, which features over 150 prospects, if you did not play at the varsity level in June or attend our showcase it is unlikely that you are on our radar right now. However, that is why we update our rankings multiple times a year and spend so much time in the gym not just in the season, but throughout the offseason as well. This list will continue to grow rapidly in the coming months.

To begin our deeper breakdown of the Class of 2029 prospects we will highlight some of the top players who, if we were to rank them, would likely be in the Top 25 or so of the class. These players will be released randomly and in alphabetical order so there is no sort of "ranking" to be derived from these handful of articles.

A dynamic playmaker with quick end-to-end foot speed, Burton stepped into a varsity role in Penn High School's backcourt in June at the Charlie Hughes Showcase. Despite a smaller build, Burton is fearless when attacking the basket and is very capable of creating his own shot while also attracting attention and making plays for his teammates from a live dribble. The Kingsmen will once again be one of the top teams in the South Bend area and Burton will make a difference as a freshman. He is the younger brother of former Indiana Mr. Basketball Markus Burton who now plays at Notre Dame.

Cathedral High School will be a Top 5 team in Class 3A to begin the season and they just might be rolling out a freshman starting point guard. Gold Jr. is one of the top prospects in Indiana's Class of 2029 with elite shot creation ability off of the bounce. He can create separation, make tough off of the dribble three-point shots, and is a very good playmaker for his teammates as well. Gold Jr. was one of the top performers for an [program_tooltip program_id='2076927' first='Indy' last='Heat'] 14u team that finished the Jr. EYBL Peach Jam Runner-Up this summer.

Evansville Bosse High School expects to have this freshman step in right away and make an instant impact. We had a chance to see him with the Bulldogs over the summer some and he certainly fight in as a versatile, athletic, 6'5" forward. Hampton has the ability to stretch the floor while also using his size and length well around the basket when mismatches present themselves. He is one of the top young prospects in the greater Evansville area.

The current junior class gets a lot of praise at Guerin Catholic High School and rightfully so. However, there is a freshman who could step into a varsity role right away this season. Keller is a highly skilled 6'1" guard that can play both on the ball as a playmaker and off of the ball as a knockdown shooter. It will be interesting to see how he factors into the backcourt rotation for what should be a Top 5-10 team in Class 3A once again.

Mohler is a highly anticipated prospect in southern Indiana. The fans at Austin High School have anxiously awaited his arrival and now the 6'4" guard is set to be one of the top producers among freshmen in the state. His versatility and size in the backcourt really stand out as he can physically dominate many of his peers. Mohler's body control and footwork are very advanced for his size and age. Look for him to put up some monster numbers for Austin High School this winter.

Wilson projects as one of the best pure shooters in Indiana's Class of 2029. He is going to factor into the backcourt equation right away at Westfield High School which is not an easy thing to do and had a couple of big games for the Shamrocks over the summer. What he can do as a shot-maker from the perimeter is very impressive. The 6'0" guard is one definitely one to watch over the coming years on the north side of Indianapolis.
