At 6'3 he already possesses a nice frame out on the perimeter, and has impressive athleticism that helps him make plays on both ends. He can rise up to block shots, or finish above the rim in the open floor. I had watched him play at the 14u level back in June, and since then he looks to be a bit more confident as a shooter. The 6' guard checked into the game and immediately knocked down two threes. His team knew that if they could get Will the ball in a pocket of space on the perimeter, three points were likely going on the board. Even without any offensive sets, Will did a nice job of moving without the ball to free himself up to catch and shoot. Whether off the dribble or in transition, Samuels had success getting to the rim and drawing contact. You never really knew what he was going to do, as he has an endless array of moves to turn to off the dribble. He could move his feet to pressure the ball hard on the perimeter, and even when matched up against size was battling for every inch of position on the block. On the offensive end he likes to push the tempo for his team, looking to get them up the floor quickly before the defense can get set. He always seemed to be in the right positions off the ball, and at 6'1 has good length to defend out on the perimeter. Off the ball I thought he did a great job of sliding into good help-side position, and shutting down a few drives attempts by walling up to protect the basket without fouling. He could beat guys off the dribble with ease, but knocked down a pull-up three to show that you couldn't afford to sag off him. Although he's still a bit raw at this stage, he showed a quick first step to beat defenders off the dribble with a straight line drive, and made plays off two feet around the basket. Versatile defender who can defend out on the perimeter or in the paint, as he moves very fluidly at 6'4. With his current size and athleticism, his future growth will dictate whether he translates as more of a wing or more of a forward.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
