With the updated 2027 rankings coming out earlier this summer, we decided to take a look at who some of the top players at each position are. Here's a look at part three of the top ranked shooting guards and small forwards in the junior class in VA.

Braun-Duin has put together quite the resume so far in high school career, as he's a two time First Team All State selection and is already approaching the 1,000 point mark while helping turn around the Handley program with two state tournament runs. The 6'2” two guard is what you would call a “walking bucket,” as he can fill it up across the board and is capable of exploding for 30 on any given day. He's a top tier knock down shooter who shoots it with range and on the move at a clip well over 40% on good volume, he can attack closeouts and get to spots in the midrange, he's surprisingly shifty with the ability to get to the rim and draw contact, and once he gets it going he can hit some of the toughest shots you will see and make it look very easy.

4) [player_tooltip player_id='2353632' first='Makai' last='Ragland'] | 6'6” SF | Albemarle (#9 Overall)

Ragland is one of the most high upside players in the class, as he has tremendous physical and athletic tools to go along with a solid skillset, and he's been a big reason for Albemarle's run to the state tournament the last two seasons. At 6'6” he has long arms and a great frame that will fill out nicely over the next few years, and he's a fluid and explosive athlete who can run in transition and get on the rim or rebound against bigger guys easily. He's super fluid and dynamic in transition with his athleticism, he can hit open shots from deep off the catch, he can create his own shot, and as he continues to grow into his body and polish his offensive skillset he should take a big jump in his game over the next few years.

3) [player_tooltip player_id='2353620' first='Troy' last='Tomlin'] | 6'5” SF | John Marshall (#6 Overall)

Tomlin will transfer to John Marshall this season after not really getting an opportunity at Paul VI, but after a breakout summer with [program_tooltip program_id='2226307' first='Team' last='Loaded VA'] 16U he should be on the radar of high major schools and national scouting services, as he fits the archetype of a high major “3 and d” wing perfectly. He's a super explosive athlete who can get out in transition or get downhill aggressively, and he is absolutely fearless attacking the rim and will not hesitate to put a defender in the basket. He shot the ball very well this past summer off the catch, he can attack off the bounce and is able to draw contact to get to the line, he has all the tools to be a top tier perimeter defender, and he still has room to get better as he continues to grow into his body and fill out.

2) [player_tooltip player_id='2290394' first='Lincoln' last='Vinson'] | 6'3” SG | Oak Hill (#2 Overall)

Vinson transferred to Oak Hill this summer after he's been one of the top players in North Carolina over the past two seasons, and he will be a great addition to the new staff as they look to get the Warriors back to one of the top programs in the country. The first time I saw Vinson as a freshman at Combine Academy, I said he was one of the most polished players at his age that I had ever seen, and he has only gotten better with time as he's grown into his body and improved his game. He's a very good shooter who can set his feet quickly and has a quick release to where he doesn't need much space even when he's being tightly guarded. He is a very good secondary ball handler and can create his own shot from multiple levels, he's a high IQ defender who is great in help and jumping passing lanes, and he's a sneaky athlete who can catch you off guard if you underestimate him.

1) [player_tooltip player_id='2307198' first='Janon' last='Singh'] | 6'7” SF | Oak Hill (#1 Overall)

Singh is another new transfer to the new look Oak Hill, and he was one of the most impressive prospects at a loaded DMV Live even this summer, and it seems like he's only scratching the surface with how good he can be when it's all said and done. The Georgia native has the prototypical size to play at the highest of levels, and mixed with his athleticism and ball skills it makes him super intriguing moving forward. He's one of the best players I've seen this year in transition, as he can both handle it and run in transition and use his size and athleticism to attack the rim and either finish above it or draw contact and get to the line. He has good footwork with euro-steps and step backs, he makes open shots from deep and gets to spots in the midrange, he's a good defender and will only get better as he fills out strength wise, and he seems like he's just scratching the surface with room to polish as he continues to develop.
