There were approximately 180 players in the gym at Asbury's Luce Center last weekend, including several of the top players in the state. Here are some names that impressed me at camp. Keep in mind that I did not see every prospect play so there will probably be some names left off the list who played well. These are only the top players that I scouted, personally.

Only a freshman, Johnson has a big body and advanced skill set. He reminds me of former Fern Creek star Clint Wickliffe. Like Wickliffe, Johnson is capable of bullying opposing defenders but also has the finesse to his game to finish with high skill level around the rim. I didn't see Jaden shoot many jumpers so that part of his game is a little unknown but he's a top freshman in the state and it's easy to see why.

Jordan is perhaps the best athlete in Kentucky. He's long and athletic with the ability to finish well above the rim. Jackson is transitioning to be more of a wing than a big and is a little prone to trying to force his ball handling. Even when Jackson turns it over, he sprints back and attempts to remedy his mistakes, as quickly as possible. Assuming he gets eligible at Saint X, Jordan is probably the most impactful transfer in the state this season.

AJ is one of the best point guards in Lexington and it showed at camp. With a quick first step and advanced vision, Slaughter led his team to a couple of strong games when he was playing on Court 2 where I was able to watch him. AJ doesn't force a lot of his own offense, even in a camp setting where selfishness can be rampant. Look for a big Sophomore season out of Slaughter as he stakes his claim to being a top Sophomore in Kentucky.

Our top ranked Junior, Gay was solid as ever at camp. With tremendous positional size at the wing spot, Montez is very hard to guard on the perimeter or off the bounce. Able to facilitate when playing with the ball in his hands, Gay has proven to be an underrated passer and has become a much better three point shooter over the last year.

Ryder is a physical guard who excels at getting to the rim but also showed that he can set up teammates for open looks. Akins is a very well rounded player who has a high basketball IQ and can thrive with or without the ball in his hands. To reach his ceiling, Ryder probably needs to show the ability to guard hyper athletic guards on the defensive end. His offensive game is very solid and its easy to see why Stetson already offered the GRC Sophomore.
