Slaughter missed a few games due to injury this past season but proved highly effective when he has the opportunity. AJ is a quick guard who can get into the paint early and often during games. At Creek, Slaughter is surrounded by shooters and he feasts on the ability to drive and kick out to those guys on the perimeter. Long term, Slaughter has become a bit of a “sleeper” in this class.

AJ is one of the best point guards in Lexington and it showed at camp. With a quick first step and advanced vision, Slaughter led his team to a couple of strong games when he was playing on Court 2 where I was able to watch him. AJ doesn’t force a lot of his own offense, even in a camp setting where selfishness can be rampant. Look for a big Sophomore season out of Slaughter as he stakes his claim to being a top Sophomore in Kentucky.

One of the better floor generals in the class, AJ is quick with the ball in his hands and excels as a decision maker who can make good reads against defenses. Slaughter is capable of scoring but is good as a facilitator and a more than capable defender. One of the top Sophomores from Lexington, AJ is working his way on to the radar of colleges and looks the part of a scholarship level point guard when the time comes.

One of the shiftiest guards in Lexington already, Slaughter is very skilled and excels at getting into the paint and making it hard on opposing defenses. AJ needs to continue improving her perimeter shooting to make himself even harder to guard. Long term, Slaughter is a growth spurt away from being a potential D1 recruit.

Slaughter may not move way up in the rankings at the next update because this class is so deep but AJ has continued to impress me every time I’ve seen him play. Quick and having a solid handle, the point guard is very solid at the varsity level and looks like a future D1 recruit, especially if he grows a few more inches.

Slaughter was a name I’ve heard but never seen before Saturday and he left a very good impression. He’s one of the most ready players to contribute at the varsity level this winter and will probably be the best freshman in Lexington. AJ is quick and very crafty as a finisher. I didn’t see him take a bunch of jump shots but he didn’t have to. The next time I see Slaughter, I’d be interested to see him take and make more threes.
