On Friday August 29th I spent a night at the Arizona Christian University Showcase. I watched 10 AIA teams and seven of the 10 were from the West Valley.

Here was my 2nd Team

(These are not rankings-just how they performed in the 1 game I viewed)

[player_tooltip player_id='2574815' first='Garrison' last='Bambolo'] Willow Canyon

A versatile forward who plays from inside and out. He is a top rebounder in and out of his area. He will get down the lane and score it In traffic plus he can step out and shoot it. He will get to the free throw line and he is a good passer who will defend multiple positions.

[player_tooltip player_id='2223522' first='Kolby' last='Barnes'] Perry

A bigger guard who plays on or off the ball. He scores it easily with threes off the catch, downhill drives with a burst using his size and gets to the line to give him some easy points. He makes smart reads and moves the ball. His size, twitch and length allows him to defend.

[player_tooltip player_id='2432574' first='Terrance' last='Byrd'] Sandra Day O'Connor

One of the top sophomores in attendance came in off the bench and did some damage. He gets downhill better then most in the class and will score thru the contact in traffic. He has a tight handle for a forward and takes very long strides. He rebounds the ball at a good clip and will push the rock up the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='1763218' first='AJ' last='Harris'] Canyon View

A bigger wing forward will score it multiple ways. He will score it with fall aways, floaters, and-1's in traffic, post ups and will spin quickly off of his defender. He is a top-notch defender in space versus guards or bigger players. His all-around play will be needed all season long.

[player_tooltip player_id='2466738' first='Dewey' last='Henry'] Ironwood

A scoring real point guard had maybe four assists. He will drive and kick it perfectly into a shooting pocket or slice up a defense. He will score with downhill takes with either hand and he loves the mid-range fall away off the dribble. He is a good rebounder in his area for his size.

[player_tooltip player_id='1697292' first='Rylan' last='Parsley'] Sandra Day O'Connor

A long defensive 3 and D type. He is great in the passing lanes on defense using his long arms, height and athleticism. He will hit the three with a quicker release and real range and is great in transition. He is a sneaky good passer too with advanced court vision.

[player_tooltip player_id='2754862' first='Anthony' last='Stokes'] Canyon View

A high motored wing forward plays harder then most out there. He will score it at a high level with reverse layups, transition buckets and dunks on the break. He rebounds the ball well with his effort, athleticism, reach and motor and simply puts his hard hat on every single possession.

[player_tooltip player_id='2315516' first='Max' last='Straus'] Arcadia (Pictured)

One of the revelations of the showcase is how much better Straus has become. He is a very reliable shooter from deep with an easy shooting stroke. He will score with reverse layups and he is super crafty to score it around the rim. His feel and skill make the team go.

[player_tooltip player_id='1875718' first='Melvin' last='Stubbs Jr'] Sandra Day O'Connor

A two-way wing forward can defend every position on the court and score it. He closes out, blocks shots, rebounds and makes plays for a teammate with an unselfish game. He will score with catch threes, layups and hook shots. He is one of the more all-around 6A players.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552772' first='Tre' last='Terry'] Hamilton

A quickly improving guard plays on and off the ball. He scores it easily with mid-range jumpers with high elevation and threes off the catch one by one. He will rebound better and even block shots with his improving bounce. His breakout season is approaching.
