On Friday August 29th I spent a night at the Arizona Christian University Showcase. I watched 10 AIA teams and seven of the 10 were from the West Valley.

Here was my 4th Team

(These are not rankings-just how they performed in the 1 game I viewed)

[player_tooltip player_id='2434482' first='Steven' last='Castro-Ryan'] Ironwood

A newcomer for me is a strong and stocky real point guard. He is undersized but the PG takes care of the ball and can score. He uses his speed with the ball and a quick first step to score at the rim with contact using his stronger upper body.

[player_tooltip player_id='2384135' first='Tyrell' last='Curry Jr'] West Point

A thicker framed post player is getting better. He is moving more fluidly from end to end and plays with more of a motor to rebound in and out of his area. He will score it in the paint with layups and put backs. He most likely will have a breakout season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2432466' first='RJ' last='Detroy'] Arcadia

A versatile wing forward who can score and defend. He will score it around the basket, collect steals into a layup and shoot it from mid-range off the catch. He smartly boxes out to rebound and he is a good passer. He will be needed to do many things on the court for them to be successful this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2164464' first='William' last='Heinrichs'] Arcadia

A bigger combo guard takes care of the ball and only shoots it when he is open. You will never see him force the issue and he will catch and shoot from the three point line with range. He is due for a breakout season and even more the following year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1697293' first='Ryker' last='Hughes'] Sandra Day O'Connor

A power forward with a very high motor to rebound the ball in and way out of his area. He can shoot it from the perimeter plus score inside. He gives his team extra possessions and extra shot attempts consistently. When he is making shots and rebounding the ball per usual, he is very hard to take off the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='2947346' first='Giovanni' last='Nielsen'] Deer Valley

A bigger guard with a great feel for the game. He does a little bit of everything and affects the game without having to score. He rebounds the ball unusually well for a guard and is always looking up to make a play for a teammate. His best basketball is clearly ahead of him.

[player_tooltip player_id='1956217' first='PJ' last='Nowlin Jr'] Canyon View

An active two-way wing forward is always talking on defense and even in the huddle. He has a sneaky tighter handle and will score with off balanced traffic shots. He makes his money by slowing down his opposing guards and wings using his toughness, quicker twitch and athleticism.

[player_tooltip player_id='1697291' first='Amare' last='Runyon'] Sandra Day O'Connor (Pictured)

A big man who keeps improving his shooting range. He will calmly knock down the three off the catch and does it with confidence. He will still control the glass and block shots in his area with his length and size. His ability to stretch the floor opens up lanes for their guards and wings.

[player_tooltip player_id='2146291' first='Jake' last='Steele'] Hamilton

A versatile wing forward who can handle the ball well and plays with great energy. He rebounds in his area at a good clip and he is very effective around the basket. He plays well off of the pick and roll game and plays the right way. He has been steadily improving since last year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2433379' first='Samay' last='Wagh'] Sandra Day O'Connor

An athletic scoring point guard will drive and kick it to a shooter. He is quick in passing lanes to collect steals and will cut off his opponents. He will score with threes off the catch and has a tight handle to handle pressure. He will be needed early on with the small injury to Watson.
