Southwest Basketball Camp: Day 1’s Top Standouts

The 8th Annual Southwest Basketball Camp, hosted by Gregg Rosenberg and Cedric Cobb Sr., tipped off August 18–19 at The PHHacility in Phoenix, AZ. The gym was packed with talent from across the state, showcasing some of Arizona's premier prospects. Over the next few articles, I'll be breaking down the players who made the biggest impact—starting with my standouts from Day 1.      An explosive two-way athlete who set the tone from Day 1. Every bucket he scored was a momentum swing for his team, whether getting downhill with ease or finishing with force at the rim. Brought big-time impact on both ends — offensively as a relentless attacker and defensively by picking up full court, applying pressure, and making it tough for opposing ball handlers to find any comfort. A true difference-maker throughout the event.     Scored it at all three levels, getting downhill with ease and knocking down shots from deep off the catch with consistency. Showed strong vision in transition, keeping his head up and finding teammates in the open floor. Finished through contact at the rim and displayed a reliable stop-and-pop mid-range jumper. Plays with a physical edge that makes him tough to handle on a consistent basis.     A superb athlete with a lightning-quick first step, he consistently created his own shot and proved to be an elite transition scorer. Defenses had to account for him in the open floor at all times, where he thrived finishing with threes, and getting downhill. Showcased his vision by hitting teammates in stride, while also delivering some jaw-dropping dunks that lit up the gym. On the other end, he was a constant pest defensively — setting the tone with his energy and effort. His all-around impact made him an easy choice for Camp MVP.     Plays with a strong handle, can take defenders off the dribble and attack gaps with confidence. Did a great job kicking out to the open man and keeping the offense flowing. Showed impressive court vision, throwing some accurate full-court passes that connected cleanly. Operated with great pace throughout and made smart decisions with the ball in his hands.     Came out firing, setting the tone early by putting teammates in all the right spots and knocking down shots from deep. Really showcased his play making ability throughout the event, consistently making the right reads and elevating those around him. You can argue he was the top performer in the 2029 class — his feel for the game is second to none.     He continues to prove it every time he steps on the floor — a guard with the ball on a string who can score it in a variety of ways. Creates space with his handle, gets defenders off balance, and finishes strong at the rim. A big-time shot maker from three who plays with confidence and consistency. Competes just as hard on the defensive end, chasing rebounds and doing all the little things that make a big impact.       He can score it in a variety of ways, using his length and size to make the difficult look easy at times. A true three-level threat with real impact and skill — knocked down threes, hit mid-range jumpers, and attacked downhill with purpose. Ran the floor extremely well, finishing plays in transition and catching lobs with ease.     One of the best performers and most improved players at the camp. If there was a Most Improved award, he would've earned it. He's taken noticeable strides with his handle and leaping ability, elevating his game to another level — and he's still growing. Although he excels as a catch-and-shoot threat from three, he showed he can impact the game in plenty of other ways. Displayed precise passing out of the pick-and-roll, attacked off the dribble with confidence, and moved well without the ball. He had it all on display.       Continues to impress with the ball in his hands, showing poise and making the right decisions while knowing exactly when to put his foot on the gas. Scored it at all three levels — knocking down shots from deep, pulling up in the mid-range, and attacking the rim with confidence. His consistency has been a major standout, proving to be one of the most reliable and productive players I've watched all summer.     He was my best two-way performer of day 1. Played with real physicality, getting downhill at will and using his athleticism to finish strong at the rim. Brought a nonstop motor from the guard spot, defending at a high level and constantly being a threat in transition. Consistently got to the free-throw line, putting pressure on defenses all game long.
