Wayzata has spent the last five straight years playing in the Class AAAA state title game winning three of them. Will they make it to a sixth straight state title game?

Summer Summary

Yes. Betting against Wayzata right now is a tough thing. If you were to bet say..... a round of Buffalo wings at BWs. I would take Wayzata and you can have the field, and I would be the one needing the napkins.

Wayzata has the top two prospects in the senior class in [player_tooltip player_id='1560867' first='Christian' last='Wiggins'] (Iowa State) and [player_tooltip player_id='1560778' first='Nolen' last='Anderson'] (Minnesota), and they return four starters (Wiggins, Anderson, Isaac Olmsted and [player_tooltip player_id='1560847' first='Tommy' last='Shunmugavelu']). Olmsted of course hurt his knee badly early last spring and there is no idea if or when he will play next year. But.... Wayzata has [player_tooltip player_id='2433532' first='Max' last='Beeninga'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2842020' first='Xaviahn' last='Ivey'] to step right into the guard roles. Ivey played a big role on the state title team last year and both he and Max were 16u All State players. Wayzata can start one or both of them with Wiggins, Anderson and Tommy. And if Wayzata wants to go big like they did last year, they go one of the guards at the point, Wiggins at the two, Anderson at the three, Tommy as the five, and then [player_tooltip player_id='2860073' first='Brady' last='Lam'] (who had a monster summer) stepping in from 7th/8th Man role to that Wyatt McBeth role, and the other guard comes off the bench. Also from that bench you have Sam Mohs, [player_tooltip player_id='1560752' first='Dylan' last='Brefeld'] and some other seniors-to-be, and Sauk Rapids transfer [player_tooltip player_id='2575638' first='Izayah' last='Cook'] who scored 16 points a game as a sophomore.

The top challenger will once again be Hopkins. Wayzata beat Hopkins in two of three games last season but the games were close and I firmly believe Hopkins was the clear number two in Class AAAA last season. Hopkins did lose more than the [program_tooltip program_id='2075965' first='Trojans' last=''] though with three starters graduating and a top reserve graduating. [player_tooltip player_id='1550877' first='Jayden' last='Moore'], [player_tooltip player_id='2420169' first='Ahmed' last='Nur'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2560534' first='Tre' last='Moore'] are back from last year plus [player_tooltip player_id='1874906' first='Kyree' last='Nelson'] moved back to the Twin Cities after improving in Illinois as a top 20 prospect in that state. Hopkins also has JV players that will step into key roles ready for varsity.

Can Washburn upset Hopkins or Wayzata? I doubt it but the Millers can have a big year and make a real push for that City title. Edina is also a team I am high on but I am not sure they have the depth to take down their Lake rivals for state. And Buffalo, I really like their future, but I think their run is a year or two away. I think Buffalo will have a solid non league record but the league record could be rough with so many new faces to the line-up.
