PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2029 Freshman Showcase Preview

In this article:
The Class of 2029 is getting set to show up on high school campuses across Oregon, and according to those who follow youth basketball, this is one of the more talented groups coming in that will make an immediate impact on the court in the 2024-25 season. Many of the top future freshmen from Oregon will be competing under one roof on Sunday at the third-ever PrepHoops Oregon Freshman Showcase, being held at the Beaverton Hoop YMCA.
This year we were able to put together a rankings with an initial Top Ten and eight of those players will be in attendance. Many of these players have been playing AAU basketball at the highest level with squads such as [program_tooltip program_id='2948398' first='Mike' last='James Elite'], Rose City Rebels, and Dynasty over the years and we were able to watch some of the compete in the month of June with their upcoming high school teams. One player who really caught our attention is the currently number one ranked player in the class, [player_tooltip player_id='2888697' first='Jordan' last='Smith'] of Reynolds. The 6-foot-3 wing exploded for 42 points in a summer league game and his offensive game already looks ready for the varsity level. The distance between the top players is small though so look for some others such as Benson's [player_tooltip player_id='2910099' first='Kendall' last='Hopkins-McGlothen'], Parkrose's [player_tooltip player_id='2910097' first='Victor' last='Norris III'], Banks' [player_tooltip player_id='2910091' first='Ryder' last='Powell'], and Roosevelt's [player_tooltip player_id='2910101' first='TyVelle' last='Hill'] to also make their names known.
The talent isn't just from the Portland Metro area either. Among the top ranked players, [player_tooltip player_id='2916645' first='Max' last='Ainsworth'] comes up from Coos May and Marshfield High School, [player_tooltip player_id='2790667' first='Scottie' last='Miller'] from Medford and South Medford High School, and [player_tooltip player_id='2916623' first='Gabriel' last='Taylor'] from Bend and Summit High School will be in the gym as well, and others from those parts of the state will also be in tow. A handful of top incoming freshman from across the Columbia River will also be competing, led by Vancouver Skyview point guard Kyrie Hamilton. A full list of attendees with their team assignments can be found here.
The showcase will take place from 10 am to 2 pm and spectators are free to attend. College coaches will be in attendance and games will also be streamed on BallerTV.
PrepHoops Oregon scouts Jed Tai, Andrew Gill, and Jackson Naugle will be on hand to watch and will provide both live updates via Twitter and further analysis with articles in the week following the event. Be sure to stay tuned for full coverage.
