College Commitment – Wyatt Horner (2026 Redmond)
The basketball career of Wyatt Horner will continue in college. The future for the 6-foot-3 athlete was originally targeted for the gridiron as the Redmond standout had inked to play football at Western Oregon. But a recent opportunity to keep on competing on the hardwood came up for Horner, so after some consideration he decided to make the switch and will play hoops at Colorado School of the Mines.
"I really appreciate everything that Western did for me - the coaches there and awesome and they are a great program," Horner said. "But I had the opportunity to visit Mines and play with the guys over there and had a great experience. Mines is a little higher academically so I decided to pursue my goals in that as well. I've always really enjoyed basketball too so when the opportunity came I took it."
Horner made a visit to campus and the offer to play hoops there in Golden was one he just couldn't refuse. It's a match for him both on and off the court and he's excited to get started. "
I like the support system and connections between the coaches and professors - it's a great community," Horner said. "I see myself as a 2 guard with them. It was awesome to compete with them and run with those guys. Definitely faster paced for sure but I think I'll fit in."
The commitment continues a legacy that Horner built at Redmond - a state tournament appearance, a league MVP as a junior, and he finished as the school's all-time leading scorer. Lots of memories built and he'll certainly remember his time as a Panther.
"For sure, I've had a few game winners but I would say my game winner freshman year against Mountain View and my game winner senior year in the same gym against those guys with a 40 bomb," Horner said. "Definitely just hanging out with the guys too I was always close with my teammates especially Junior year."
Our congratulations go out to Horner and his family on his decision.
