The 2025 Phenom Hoops Summer Havoc Live took place this weekend in Bermuda Run, North Carolina. This event featured a good balance of high-level and under-the-radar prospects from across the Southeast. Check out these two 2026s and three 2027s who stood out on the defensive end of the floor at the Phenom Hoops Summer Havoc Live:

First up on my list of defensive standouts is [player_tooltip player_id='2910019' first='Adam' last='Vandergrift Jr.'] This is a new name to the database, but one who will see good minutes for Chapin if he continues to play hard on the defensive end of the floor. Adam had a remarkable-6 steal game in the close win over NC Invasion. He did so in multiple ways, including jumped passing lanes, deflected inbound passes, and strip steals. Vandergrift is also a weapon on the defensive glass, particularly because of his strong boxouts. On offense, Adam has a nice mid-range game and will hit threes if left open.

Jerzidan added much-needed defensive intensity off the bench for [program_tooltip program_id='2163938' first='Next' last='Level Elite'] in a Saturday matchup with the Blazers. Despite not having a major minutes-load, Miller-Brown tallied 3 steals in the game, including one that he turned into a lefty-layup and one that was key late in the game to give his team some life. When guarding away from the ball, he showed his discipline by staying connected to shooters and had a few good contests when his opponent did get a shot off.

Next up on the list is [program_tooltip program_id='2078724' first='Carolina' last='Pressure']'s [player_tooltip player_id='2314643' first='Chorsheak' last='White']. White and his team played up in the 17U Division this weekend, but it didn't stop them from winning games or him from standing out. When I think of the best on-ball defenders in South Carolina's 2027 Class, Chorsheak is one of the first players to come to mind because of how disruptive he can be on the perimeter. He had several good defensive possessions in the Saturday-morning matchup with River City Reign, making life difficult for opposing ball handlers. He also had some good moments as a passer on offense, assisting on three made threes.

Mickle is the first of two Westwood High/CPB 2026s who caught my eye defensively in their win over Carolina Courts Elite. Donovan is more of a specialty defender - a guy who looks to crash the glass and run the break as well as make plays in pressure. He excelled throughout the weekend in transition, often taking the ball coast-to-coast for a layup or a dump-off assist to a teammate. In Game One Friday, Mickle had a pair of steals on inbounds passes while pressing full-court, both leading to easy layups for himself.

And last but not least, [player_tooltip player_id='2910012' first='Quentin' last='McGill']. He is a multi-sport athlete who has really left a good impression on me over the last two months, thanks to good play with the Redhawks and with Pressure. On the defensive end, he excelled on and off the ball, displaying good feet to contain the ball as well as excellent instincts to force turnovers as a help defender. McGill is a very smart player and does a nice job of reading the game all over the floor. Quentin has also impressed as a perimeter shooter, meaning he could fit the mold of a 3 & D Guard at the next level.
