On July 5th I attended the Attitude of Gratitude Summer Tip-Off located at the phhacility in Phx.

I watched over 10 teams play from 10:00am-6:00pm with 17 and 16U teams.

Here were some of the 2025-26 Lead Guard Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='1900362' first='Colby' last='Jessup'] Valley Christian (AZ Select UAA)

A bigger guard who plays on or off the ball. He is a sharp shooter with a quicker release from the the stripe and he will rattle them in. He got hot and hit five of his six attempts. He works hard to rebound better then a year ago and he also collected a few steals for layups on the other end.

[player_tooltip player_id='2491771' first='Mykell' last='Stacy'] PHH Prep (Legacy)

A scoring combo guard is a good passer with either hand setting up his teammates but he will score with high level mid-range jumpers off the dribble. He will also hesitate and get to the basket or just make a quick burst to the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id='1694989' first='Brody' last='Postorino'] Notre Dame Prep (AZ Select UAA)

A cerebral and skilled guard who plays on of off the ball. He directs the traffic and will throw up the court ropes perfectly in stride. He will hit the open three off the catch and is quick enough to get to the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id='1150901' first='John' last='Mattingly'] Central (AZ Select UAA)

A very poised and skill scoring lead guard. He seems to play the game in slow motion and everything comes easy for him. He makes the game easy for his teammates and will drive and kick it and sets the table. He will calmly knock down threes and mid-range jumpers.

[player_tooltip player_id='2630584' first='Patrick' last='Flores'] Tucson (Tucson Spartans 17)

A sturdy framed point guard who can handle some ball pressure. He has a nice burst into the lane and can fall away off of his defender and drill it. He will slither down the lane and score with reverse layups or hit the three. He should have a big senior year in Tucson.

[player_tooltip player_id='1598402' first='Johnny' last='Rios III'] Centennial (AZ Select James 17)

A scoring point guard may be undersized but he is tough. He will blow by to the basket and hit threes off the catch. He has the floater game and he loves his mid-range pull-up. He made a few impressive lasers thru the defense diming his teammates and always seems to make a clutch play when needed.

Quincy Kirk Canyon View (AZ Venom)

A defensive point guard who will facilitate with left or right hand passes threading the needle and controls the tempo of the game. He will score with off the dribble or catch threes and he is a quick second and third jumper. He seems to glide in the air and will catch the lob dunk and has incredible body control. He rebounds well for a guard and put up 19 and 16 points in their two games.

DeNali McNeal Canyon View (AZ Venom 17)

The taller scoring combo guard bothered his opponents all day long. He was dropping dimes and playing stifling defense. The Mesa CC commit had a great showing. He will score with pull-ups from mid-range, catch threes, slick drives and cuts off of his opponents on defense. He scored 34 and 29 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1763219' first='Jason' last='Shelton'] Canyon View (AZ Venom)

A decent sized scoring point guard will drive and kick it to open shooters and moves the ball like you should. He will score with offensive rebound put backs, catch threes and mid-range jumpers off the glass. He should have a breakout season in the West Valley.

[player_tooltip player_id='1938808' first='Justice' last='Hinds'] Sagauro (Peak UAA Rise)

A physical point guard will defend, make plays for his teammates and lead. He just got back after an injury and was wearing a brace over his leg. He gets to the basket and will score thru the contact. When he is fully healthy he will be even tougher to handle.

[player_tooltip player_id='2444019' first='Gavin' last='Henss'] Horizon (Peak Regional 17)

A stronger framed scoring lead guard will score with blow by's with a tighter handle and shoot it from the perimeter with mid-range jumpers and threes. He can get hot quickly and be relied on to put points on the board.
