With new rankings in the work and the grassroots season in full swing, we decided it was time to take a look at some of the particulars that make certain prospects excel at specific parts of the game.

Today, we take a look at 7 of the best pure scorers in the Northern VA area, players that you can game plan for all day, but still can go out and fill it up any time they step on the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='1782684' first='Isaiah' last='Brown'] | 6'1” CG | Westfield 2026

Brown has been a starter and go-to player for Westfield since he was a freshman, and he has shown the ability to score the ball in a lot of different ways as the team has changed and added more firepower. He's a knock down shooter from deep who can get open and make shots on the move, he can handle in transition and has great strength and body control as a finisher, and he can get to spots in the midrange and create space to make tough pull-ups and floaters too.

[player_tooltip player_id='1588130' first='Devon' last='Pettibone'] | 5'11” PG | Briar Woods 2026

Pettibone is coming off a breakout junior season where he was Briar Woods main ball handler and scorer, and when it comes to how he gets buckets it's impressive with his deep bag and smooth way of doing so. While he isn't the fastest or most athletic guard he changes speeds well and has great balance to create space, he can drill it from deep with range off the bounce, he finishes well with both hands and he works very well off the ball to get open too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2242402' first='RJ' last='Jones'] | 6'3” CG | VA Academy 2026

Jones is one of the most underrated scorers if not prospects in the DMV in this class, as he can fill it up in bunches and doesn't need a lot to get himself going. The 6'3” combo can drill it from deep coming off pin downs and elevators, he can size up defenders on the wing and knock it down off the bounce, he gets to spots in the midrange where he can hit fall-aways and pull-ups, and he gets to the rim and draws contact a lot too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2353657' first='Kaylen' last='Chilton'] | 6'1” PG | Woodson 2027

Chilton has been impressive from the day he stepped on the court as a freshman at Woodson, culminating in a sophomore season where he led the Cavs to a state championship and earned All State honors. The 6'1” lefty can turn on the burners and blow by defenders to get to the rim where he can finish through traffic and has gotten explosive enough to play above the rim, he has deep range off the catch, he scores it well in the mid-range and he has a knack for jumping passing lanes and getting easy buckets in transition too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2470549' first='Makel' last='Minor'] | 6'2” CG | Bishop O'Connell 2027

When it comes to pure scoring bags, there aren't many you'll find anywhere that can compare to Minor, as he has all the tricks you can think of, almost reminding you of an old school playground bucket getter mixed with a new school sharp shooter. The 6'2” guard is able to put together combos on the perimeter to create space or blow by defenders, he has range out past the NBA line, he uses his body well to create space in the midrange and at the rim, and he's very good at drawing fouls from all over and getting to the line for easy buckets.

[player_tooltip player_id='2470596' first='Ben' last='Edmonds'] | 6'1” PG | Episcopal 2027

Edmonds had a breakout sophomore season for Episcopal, earning All IAC honors and he's continued that strong play with a big time start to his AAU season with AKT as well putting up huge numbers so far. The 6'1” guard is as crafty as they come as he changes speeds well and has great footwork when he gets in the paint to get good looks, he has good wiggle off the bounce to beat defenders and create space, he can make shots from deep off the catch and on top of his scoring ability he is an excellent playmaker too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2353646' first='Simas' last='Kacerauskas'] | 6'7” WF | Episcopal 2027

Kacerauskas was another breakout player for Episcopal last year who is also having a great summer so far with AKT, earning multiple division one honors and emerging as one of the best in the DMV after growing a few inches and developing his game nicely over the last year or so. The 6'7” wing was also an All IAC performer averaging a double-double with his ability to stretch the defense from deep, take defenders off the bounce and finish through traffic, attack the offensive glass for put-backs and he works well in the mid-post area too.
