Top Ball Handlers at the Lone Star State Showdown

The PrepHoops Lone Star State Showdown was an action-packed event filled with an abundance of talent. Some say that guards win games, and this tournament showcased some of the most exciting guards to watch, thanks to their exceptional ball-handling skills. These wizards with the basketball consistently made big plays whenever they had the ball in their hands. These are the guys that impressed the most with their creative handles.    D'karin Ameir Johnson from Putnam City North (Class of 2027) is as shifty as they come. Tough and skilled beyond his classification, he checks all the boxes for a prime-time ballplayer. A three-level scorer, Johnson is a wizard with the basketball and almost impossible to guard without fouling. He plays with a flair reminiscent of "Skip to My Lou." His athleticism was on display when he drove to the basket and dunked on a defender, proving he is a true showman with the ball and nearly unguardable when he's in his element. His use of hesitation, combined with an impressive ability to shift the defense to create scoring opportunities, made him the best ball handler in the tournament. Not only did he use his handle to score, but he also showcased his skills as a master facilitator, making impressive passes that simplified the game for his teammates. He was undoubtedly the most creative ball handler of the weekend.     A supreme point guard, Caleb Mathew constantly communicates on both sides of the ball and manages his team like a CEO. Despite being the smallest player on the court, he has the biggest voice. Mathew plays with his head up, consistently putting his teammates in positions to score. He glides around the court, using misdirection and angles to control the game and keep constant pressure on the defense. An elite ball handler, he is very comfortable with the basketball in his hands, making him a dynamic playmaker and a key asset for his team. I had to watch the kid play twice. He makes the game fun with his competitive spirit and command of the game.     Mack entered the game as a backup, but his skill set is definitely first-team caliber. He is an impressive downhill player who uses his ball handling to navigate the court and make plays for others. Nearly impossible to contain, he employs continuous movement and creative ball handling to shift the defense and create lanes for cutting teammates. He can effortlessly go between the legs and behind the back while using misdirection and hesitation moves to confuse eager defenders. Mack is a special talent, easily ranking as one of the top five ball handlers at the tournament.     Keydrick Johnson is a point guard with an elite handle, which he uses to navigate the court effortlessly. He can easily handle full-court pressure, forcing the defense to make constant decisions. With a low center of gravity, he is tough to stay in front of, quickly getting two feet in the lane to make plays. Johnson is also a creative finisher around the rim. His ability to play off two feet, combined with his exceptional ball-handling skills and creativity, makes him a joy to watch. As he continues to develop and expand his game, his future looks incredibly bright.     Dre'caris Littleton is a super shifty guard who excels at getting his teammates involved. He possesses full-court vision and effectively utilizes every player's strengths on his team. As a controlled point guard, he has the strength to overpower opponents who have a size advantage. One of the few true shifty guards, Littleton stands out due to his impressive ball-handling skills. He is a crafty finisher capable of scoring with either hand. As a servant point guard, he makes the game fun to watch. Littleton is a high-IQ guard who understands how to play off two feet, using Euro steps and upward fakes to confuse defenders. He consistently fights for position and has the strength to deliver cross-court passes with precision. He was undoubtedly one of the most entertaining shifty guards to watch all weekend.
