Hoop Group Southern Jam Standouts 2027-28 Part 2

Part 2 of the Standout performers at the Southern Jam Fest showed the depth at the event in the younger age groups. Here's a look at the next wave off talented underclassmen Brian Mitchell, and [player_tooltip player_id='2470563' first='Landon' last='Lee']. Along with a couple new names on the scene in [player_tooltip player_id='2847241' first='James' last='Hare'], [player_tooltip player_id='2758600' first='Patrick' last='Shime'] and Dhru Iyer. All have the potential to be a Division 1 schools radar this spring and summer.    There are a lot of enticing pieces on the [program_tooltip program_id='2226248' first='Boo' last='Williams'] Summer League Nike E16 team, which certainly includes Brian and what he provides as a creator and scorer. He's a crafty, polished guard with a calm demeanor and the ability to consistently generate shots for himself and others. Brian scores the ball from all levels and is comfortable in spot-up situations but is arguably at his best with the ball in his hands. He mixes it up well from all levels while finding ways to impact the game as a defender and rebounder.       At 6-foot-8, Lee was able to make opposing players miss a lot of shots at the rim. On offense he used his size well to finish plays at the basket over contesting defenders, and made his mark playing within the flow of the offense. Lee also has some potential to impact the game from the perimeter with some shooting touch. As he learns to use his size to make a forceful impact, with plenty of time to hone his skills, his development will be one to monitor.     The 6'6" lefty forward showed a nice shot from multiple levels and some upside in that facet that will continue to develop with the coaching staff at the national powerhouse. Shime's developing size inside allowed him to control the glass and pile up rebounds, while contesting shots that came his way as well.     A cold-blooded scorer. Smooth & effortless with the ball in his hands. Great touch. Showed the ability to get his team into their half-court sets when it was time to slow the game down. Impress with his ability to stroke the jumper off the bounce or catch. In the gym range and good shot consistency are two assets he brings to the court. Played for Virginia Playmakers at the event.     Although it's easy to appreciate the entirety of this Global group, Hare clearly stands out as a leader and focal point. He's a smart, heady floor general who controls the action as the main creator. Hare displays a crafty handle, quality playmaking sense, and the ability to assert himself as a scorer in various ways. He's quick enough to consistently break down opponents and touch the paint but can also knock down jumpers off the catch or bounce. Hare is also a pesky defender and useful rebounder.     The [program_tooltip program_id='2078456' first='DC' last='Premier'] 15U roster is loaded with talented pieces, and Pierre-Louis was arguably their most productive prospect I watched in my day in Hampton. He's a highly adaptable piece whose motor and general nose for the ball allow him to be constantly involved in the action on both ends of the floor. Cole displayed the ability to spot up, move without the ball, and find open seams as a cutter. However, he found most of his production through sheer effort and making hustle plays. Cole is a developing rebounder who lurks extremely well for putbacks and extra possessions.     Fresh off a productive season at Middletown High School help led the Knights to the region championship with a 17-8 season averaging 9.1 points a game this season as a freshman. Mason overall play did not disappoint. Using his 6-5 230 lbs. frame allows him to operate efficiently around the basket where he was able to make shots, as well as kick the ball back out to his shooters. Whipp showed some shooting potential too as he connected in the mid-range and knocked down a couple of threes.
