Metro Classic: Day 1 Standouts Part II

On Thursday, February 6th, the Metro Classic returned to the state of New Jersey for another year at Franklin High School in Somerset, NJ. The first day of matchups featured not only some of New Jersey best public school teams this season but also some of New Jersey's best private school programs. In the second part of this article, let's take a look at the rest of the guys that stood out over the course of Thursday's first slate of games.    [player_tooltip player_id='2344521' first='Micah' last='Gordon'] shined in the ways he was able to score the basketball for Planfield. Gordon was super aggressive in attacking the rim, both in the halfcourt and in transition. Gordon used an array of hesitation dribbles to get downhill and finish at the rim in different ways— whether it finishing at the rim through contact, or different types of floaters, Gordon showcased his ability to generate rim pressure. Gordon finished the game with 27 points and 10 rebounds.     [player_tooltip player_id='1786395' first='Luke' last='Schorr'] shined in his ability to be a threat from the perimeter, knocking down multiple open catch and shoot threes. Being a guy that defenses have to respect from three point range, Schorr made the defense pay for late closeouts.     [player_tooltip player_id='1595680' first='Mason' last='Santiago'] showcased his ability to not only knock down open shots within the flow of St. Peter's offense but also do the little things to impact winning. Santiago did a good job of shooting the three ball both off the catch and off the dribble, rebounding well for position, keeping the ball moving for his team's offense, pressuring the basketball, and initiating offense. Santiago finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists.     [player_tooltip player_id='1580578' first='Jayden' last='Hodge'] shined in the ways he was able to provide steady offense for St. Rose. Whether it was making shots from three point range, finishing plays in transition, or getting to the rim on dribble drives and finishing around defenders, Hodge was able to showcase his ability to score the basketball on multiple levels. Hodge finished the game with 16 points.     Operating as the primary ball handler for St. Peter's Prep's offense, [player_tooltip player_id='1609109' first='Richie' last='Rosa'] not only was able to create offense for himself but also did a good job of finding his open teammates. Rosa used his quick first step to the get to the basket, and showcased a little bit of his creativity off the bounce to get to different floaters and mid range pull ups. Rosa finished the game with 18 points and 5 assists.     Finishing the game against St. Rose with 14 points, Erick Porch shined in the ways he was able to step up and provide timely offense for St. Peter's throughout the course of this tight matchup. Whether it was knocking down big open shots from three point range, or getting to the basket on dribble drives, Porch was able to provide a source of steady and timely buckets for St. Peter's.
