Max’s Mid-Week Standouts Week 3

He was cutting hard off the ball for easy looks inside, beating defenders out of the block, finishing in the open floor, and facing up for some mid-range jumpers over size. His long frame and release point allow him to get up shots over just about anyone at the high school level. I also liked his unselfishness and passing vision. Now as a junior he's been breaking out as a key player for his team. At 6'4 he offers some additional size, with the combination of athleticism and strength to play the 3 or 4 spots. Amare was tough to stop when he got out in the open floor, and threw down a dunk in the win against The Prairie School. The 6'6 wing was going right at Homestead defenders on the block, dribbling into a post-up and from there either finishing at a high level of finding an open shooter. Once he got to the block the possession was pretty much over, as Jack put on an impressive display of footwork that allowed him to create angles for high percentage looks. When a double team came, he showed the vision to quickly locate an open man. Even dished out a pair of behind the back passes from the block leading to wide open looks. Finishing with 12 points on the night, he seemed to deliver when his team needed him most, as 8 of those points came with under 8 minutes to play in regulation. During that stretch Brett drained a pair of threes, while also getting into the lane and finishing a floater over size. His movement off the ball is something that really stands out, as he was opening up a handful of great looks with his off-ball cuts when the ball went to the post. Also did a nice job of floating into pockets of space on the perimeter, where he's proven he can knock down shots consistently. He has such a quick first step, and was pressuring the ball hard on the defensive end of the floor, causing some disruptions and forcing a few mistakes in the process. His ability to stop on a dime for a pull-up jumper allowed him to take over, as he drained jumper after jumper in the second half. Even late in a game when some guys start to fatigue, Lamont still has that explosive burst to blow by guys or elevate for his shots. Knocked down 8 shots in the second half to lead St. Cats to a 65-51 over Martin Luther.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
