Around the State: 4A Greater Metro Conference 2024-25 Preview

Lake Norman High looks to defend their regular-season title against some tough squads in Hickory Ridge and Mooresville. Take a look at the GMC Conference Preview for the 2024-25 season!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Early Favorites</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":3} --> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Lake Norman</h3> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Their senior duo of [player_tooltip player_id='1226603' first='Tre' last='McKinnon'] and Trent Steinour should lead the way for them once again in the Greater Metro Conference after going 11-1 in 2023-24. Steinour was impressive as ever with 15.7 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per game along with 14 double-doubles. [player_tooltip player_id='1990413' first='Josh' last='Yates'] is a budding name who produced 10.3 points, 3.2 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals per contest. Look for 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1907231' first='Nick' last='Arnold']'s role to grow a bit more as well at the point guard spot. They're set to be a contender in the NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs in 2024-25.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":3} --> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Hickory Ridge</h3> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Ragin Bulls were a surprise team in the GMC this past season and 2027s [player_tooltip player_id='2419150' first='Parker' last='Watkins'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2449543' first='Travien' last='Williams'] look prime to prove a lot more after going 9-3 in 2023-24 in league action. Watkins returns as their top leading scorer with 11.2 points per game while Williams is probably their biggest breakout candidate after posting 9.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals per contest as a freshman. [player_tooltip player_id='1608357' first='Tyzhir' last='Dyer'] is a prospect to keep an eye on at the point guard role as well. Look for them to compete at the top once again with their young core.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":3} --> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Mooresville</h3> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2362523' first='Eian' last='Bailey'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2633007' first='Christian' last='Wilson'] are two 2026 prospects to watch with Mooresville High as they look to get past the Ragin Bulls and Wildcats this season. The Blue Devils went 8-4 in the GMC this past season and were another NCHSAA 4A State Playoff team as they made it to the second round. [player_tooltip player_id='1409596' first='Dylan' last='Clark'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2232860' first='Bryson' last='Demby'] are two seniors with a lot to prove as well in their final seasons with Clark heading to Winston-Salem State.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
