It is officially rankings update time here at Prep Hoops Indiana headquarters. Throughout the month of October we will be focusing on refreshing, refining, and expanding our rankings. Along with that came the release of our initial Class of 2028 Watch List. Since all of these names are very new to us we decided to not rank any of them to begin with. That has been our common practice when introducing a new class over the last couple of years. However, with 293 prospects included, we are very happy with the depth we were able to provide the freshman class as they begin their high school careers. While we don't want to specifically “rank” any of these young prospects, we do want to highlight some of those that we know are going to be towards the top of their class. Below are eight more of the top freshmen prospects, listed alphabetically, that we have been able to see so far. We released eight other names earlier today as well.

Baker is the perfect example of why we at Prep Hoops Indiana pride ourselves on going the extra mile. Generally speaking, if you don't play at the varsity level at the Charlie Hughes Showcase or attend our Freshman Showcase it is highly unlikely that we are aware of you. However, when we made our trip to watch Lawrence North workout this fall this 5'10" point guard stood out. It obviously will be difficult for him to find the floor at the varsity level, but he will be "next up" in terms of who to watch out for in the Wildcats' backcourt. Very talented playmaker.

New Palestine won a Class 4A Sectional last season and will be among the favorites in Class 3A this year after getting bumped down. They also return one of the state's leading scorers and several other veteran pieces. However, do not be surprised if Davison is making a real impact by the end of the season. The 6'3" guard is an outstanding shooter, is very comfortable with the ball in his hands, and was one of the best players on the floor when I went to watch the Dragons workout this fall.

There is no denying the playmaking ability of this 6'1" point guard that will be coming through the system at Ben Davis High School. McDuffey is shifty with the ball in his hands, displays a tight handle, and is able to consistently get two feet in the paint off of the dribble. Regardless of whether he is creating a shot for himself or a teammate he is always the straw the stirs the drink offensively when he has the ball.

With the amount of veteran talent at Bishop Luers High School this season it remains to be seen how much, if any, varsity impact this prospect will make this season. However, Moore will certainly be one of the top names going forward in the Fort Wayne area regardless. He has impressive physical and athletic tools for a young prospect and can dominate from the wing as a straight line driver and slasher. Moore was very impressive at our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.

The list of freshmen who will come in and play at the varsity level in Class 4A is not very long. Nash will be one of those players as he played a primary rotation role at the Charlie Hughes Showcase for Kokomo and looked very comfortable right away. The 6'3" wing has more guard skill than I originally thought which he displayed at our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. Along with that skill level, Nash is very strong and athletic which makes him a major matchup issue on the perimeter.

I'm personally buying all of the [player_tooltip player_id='2538842' first='Gavin' last='Scheich'] stock that is out there. Sure, he is a small school kid from rural southern Indiana, but his game is impressive. The 6'8" forward moves around well for his size and has a very intriguing skill set. At the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase he impressed with his ability to finish with both hands around the basket while displaying some sound footwork. Then, he stepped out beyond the three-point arc and knocked down a catch-and-shoot threat from the corner. There is a lot of upside to work with here.

One of the standouts from the first Sunday of Metro Indy Fall League play, Vogt certainly looked the part as a freshman playing up with and against some of the top competition at the event. The 6'4" guard from West Lafayette High School is one of the best pure catch-and-shoot threats in Indiana's Class of 2028. Look for him to quickly step into a role this winter and be a highly productive shooter/scorer.

Voltz really stood out at our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase with his dynamic playmaking ability. He is a true shot-maker that creates his own from all three levels with quick change of pace, tight ball handling ability, and good elevation on his jump shot. There is a lot to like about his upside as a scorer. There is a good chance he will step into a role right away at the varsity level for a young Decatur Central squad.
