Prep Hoops Grit Region Finals - 17u All-Tournament Teams

On Friday night, nearly 200 teams from across the Midwest and beyond came to Indiana for the annual Prep Hoops Circuit Grit Region Finals. Fast forward less than 48 hours and on Sunday afternoon only three teams remained and were crowned champions after a spring and summer full of competition. As always, our team of scouts had boots on the ground coverage from the opening tip-off until the final buzzer. Nobody does content and event coverage like Prep Hoops and that was on fully display throughout this great weekend of basketball. As we begin to put a bow on the Grit Region Finals over the next few days, let's begin by taking a look at our All-Tournament teams. Here are the best of the best from the weekend at the 17u level.    One of the leaders throughout the weekend for [program_tooltip program_id='2078374' first='Full' last='Package'] Black, Buzelis was at his best on Championship Sunday leading his team to the title. He averaged 12.7 points per game in wins over [program_tooltip program_id='2076924' first='EG10' last=''], KY Rise, and [program_tooltip program_id='2075515' first='Hoops' last='4 Health'] Thompson. At 6'5", Buzelis has great size on the perimeter that he pairs with a highly versatile skill set. Whether he is scoring from beyond the arc, off of the dribble in the mid-range, or getting all of the way to the rim, Buzelis knows how to put the ball in the basket and impact winning.     Midwest Pumas - Burgett lost a close one in the quarterfinals, 72-68 to KY Rise. However, Conkle was among the top scorers at the 17u level at the Grit Region Finals averaging averaging 18.3 points per game on the weekend. The 6'0" sharpshooter was at his best in that loss to KY Rise scoring 25 points while shooting 5-8 from three-point range. What he can do as a playmaker, along with his deadeye shooting ability from deep, makes him a really intriguing small college prospect.     It should come as no surprise that one of the best point guards in the country was also the best player in the gym this past weekend at the Prep Hoops Circuit Grit Region Finals. Fears led [program_tooltip program_id='2075515' first='Hoops' last='4 Health'] Thompson to the championship game by scoring 20 in the quarterfinals, 18 in the semifinals, and 16 in the title matchup. However, his best performance came in a comeback win on Saturday as the four-star, Top 50 national prospect poured in 34 points along with 5 assists to defeat [program_tooltip program_id='2082760' first='Reps317' last=''].     [program_tooltip program_id='2076924' first='EG10' last=''] has been one of the best teams on the Prep Hoops Circuit throughout the spring and summer. Their success has generally been powered by Horvath and that was certainly true this past weekend at the Grit Region Finals. The 6'1" guard scored it at a high level as usual, but [program_tooltip program_id='2076924' first='EG10' last=''] ran into [program_tooltip program_id='2078374' first='Full' last='Package'] Black in the quarterfinals falling 59-52 to the eventual champions. Horvath scored 17 in that contest. Highly skilled with the ball in his hands.     Stack was excellent throughout the weekend, but played arguably his best game of the Grit Region Finals in the championship game as [program_tooltip program_id='2078374' first='Full' last='Package'] Black dominated [program_tooltip program_id='2075515' first='Hoops' last='4 Health'] Thompson 63-39. The 6'10" big man, playing up at the 17u level as a rising junior, scored 18 points to lead all scorers in the title game. Stack flashed the ability to make pick-and-pop three-point shots while also dominating around the rim at the both ends of the floor.
