Sizzlin’ Summer Shootout: Friday Standouts

It is one of my favorite events of the entire year and has been a June must-stop since before my Prep Hoops days. This year, I was at Bob Jones University for Day One's proceedings and there were a multitude of exciting prospects and teams from the Palmetto State in action. He set the tone early with strong downhill drives and a high level of defensive intensity. Anderson's game eventually branched out to perimeter shooting, transition highlights, and rim protection, doing it all for the Yellow Jackets in an exciting win. He finished with a stacked box score, putting up 22 Points, 5 Rebounds, 6 Assists, and 3 Blocks. Daron showed some dominant flashes in both halves of a comfortable win over Legacy Early College, going for 20 Points and 10 Rebounds. It felt like he was extra determined to make a statement in the Yellow Jackets' first game of the summer and he grabbed the rebound on almost all of his own missed shots early in the game. Dunbar has a college-ready body and has a tremendous all-around game. He does a great job of staying active possession after possession and runs the floor extremely well. He can rebound and push, do it the old-fashioned way by filling the lane, or even jump a passing lane for a breakaway slam. Thomas has a strong frame and has good fundamentals below the basket. He flirted with a triple-double, going for 17 Points, 7 Rebounds, and 8 Assists. Brown has tremendous vision - some of the best for someone of his size in the state - and he is a big that is extremely versatile in his ability to make plays off the dribble, finish around the basket, or stretch the floor from the perimeter. He is a hustle guard who can create for himself off the dribble or knockdown catch-and-shoot jump shots. This is an important quality due to some of Mauldin's personnel and something he has developed through playing with talent in his first two seasons. Shaw also has tremendous vision and can finish creatively around the basket. He went for 15 Points, 6 Assists, and 2 Steals in a Pool Play win over Spartanburg on Friday. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
