About Jake
Expert Analysis
Miles Masercola | Prep Hoops Scout
Thomas will be playing with TLBA 17u UAA this spring/summer and it should be a seamless fit as the system and a lot of the surrounding parts being the same. Thomas brings a unique skillset as he has a truly rugged approach to the game and plays with an element of physicality you just don’t see too often. Thomas is also a really high level passer for a front-court player while doing a great job expanding his range as a jump shooter this year at Moravian Prep. Thomas does a really great job rebounding off both backboards while possessing the level of skill necessary to push the break when the opportunity presents itself. The size, edge, and skill that Allen possesses make him capable of playing a variety of roles as he continues to mold himself into the best player he can be.

Jake is the lone big man on this list. He flirted with a triple-double in Oceanside’s opening game, going for 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists in a win over Easley. Thomas is a strong rebounder on both ends of the floor, capable of finishing his teammates’ misses or pushing the pace after another team’s miss. Jake is also a solid ball-handler who can facilitate from the perimeter or pass out of double-teams. As the tournament went on, he showed that he could be a scorer too, doing so at all three levels with 12 points on 3 3PM in the the first half before picking up an injury in the Sizzlin’ Summer Shootout Gold Championship Game.

. The Landsharks were runners-up in 2A last season and have been reclassified to 3A, located in Region 6. Jake averaged 8.3 Points Per Game and 6.0 Rebounds Per Game in his Sophomore Season, but I think he could nearly double that production this season. Thomas is very polished on the offensive end of the floor with ball-handling, IQ, relentless energy, and scoring. He is a factor on the glass on both ends of the floor and can make plays for himself and others off the dribble. Jake can knock down jump shots, but he is at his best working with two feet in the paint.

Thomas surely won’t back down from a challenge inside the paint. Jake brings a blue-collar mentality to work every day for the Landsharks. Jake will constantly work for position down low posting and carving out space or simply go to the short corner for the jumper. Thomas has good footwork and a willingness to battle and play through contact.
He will look to take a charge on command at time and surely shows no problems collecting charges along the way. Jake averaged 11.8 ppg, 8.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists last season for the Landsharks. The Landsharks lost in the Class 2A State Championship have made the move up to Class 3A this season.

Jake was very effective for the Landsharks in a matchup with Fountain Inn on Friday Afternoon. He does a great job of staying active possession after possession and runs the floor extremely well. He can rebound and push, do it the old-fashioned way by filling the lane, or even jump a passing lane for a breakaway slam. Thomas has a strong frame and has good fundamentals below the basket. Jake works hard to control the glass as well, displayed by his 9 Rebounds to go with 19 Points in the win.

Thomas is what he is down in the post. Jake is a rugged undersized post who embraces his position on the floor. He will certainly deliver you effort and hustle on every play while he’s in the game. Jakes is a blue-collar player who will deliver on putbacks around the cup and full effort on the glass when it comes to either end of the floor. He certainly is not flashy but productive with his play in the paint.
