Section 7 Recap: Top Players

Section 7 Took Place June 21st - 23rd at State Farm Arena in Glendale, Arizona featured some of the top West Coast High School Programs. The event was filled with college coaches of all levels, providing players with the perfect opportunity to impress. Here's a look at some of the top local players from the event.    The talk for the next 12 months will be about what if any level small guards can have success at. Much of this will be because of the play of Jackson. The diminutive PG was awesome. He defended, showed elite shot making ability, and led his squad in assist. Behind his play the Wildcats took home the Asset Prevention Tax Bracket Championship.      The lefty showed a new dimension to his game. Patterson was able to step out and not only hit threes, but also slash to the basket. He's a matchup nightmare, that was at his best scoring around the basket. He had a monster weekend, averaging a double double with 25 - 11 per game.     Staton was by far the most talked about player at the event. There wasn't one coach that hadn't heard of the 7 foot bouncy athlete. He was one of the best rim protectors at the event, using his elite 1st and 2nd jump ability to alter and block a ton of shots. As per usual he scored from the dunkers spot, using the aforementioned leaping ability to hammer home several lob dunks.     Bartlett is a throwback big with terrific footwork. He was one of the top low post scorers at the event, using strong hands to catch passes from a variety of radius'. He has a quick spin move over the left shoulder, good patience and a soft touch around the rim.     Davis was feeling it this week. The PG proved why he's one of the best floor spacing PG's in the state. He was lethal from range, knocking down multiple threes in every game including a 5 three point contest against Thousand Oaks.     The kid almost won it by himself. Shaw was magnificent. The rising senior put on a tremendous scoring display, showcasing one of the best layup packages in event. Behind his 25ppg efforts the Rattlers reached the championship game.     It was fun seeing Yapi work his magic this weekend. J-handles was able to get wherever he wanted. The shifty guard showed elite shot making ability along with a knack for grabbing rebounds evident by his 6 per game.     I'm so happy for Anderson. The skilled wing showed a ton of heart and toughness this weekend. He's always been talented but it was his grit and willingness to sacrifice for his squad that was impressive. The 6'7 forward was first to the floor, cleaned the glass and was one of the top grab and go players from the event.     Coming out party of sorts for Riley. He was one of the top freshman in the state years ago, and is now seeking to compete for that title as a senior. His efficiency is probably what stands out the most as the combo shot lights out from both the floor and behind the arc.     Harris played with the confidence of a player that had just received his first offer. He showed a terrific combination of speed and wiggle, getting to the rim at will. The two way guard was one of the better on ball defenders using quick hands to come away with some straight up thefts.      Can we just call Abdalla Mr consistent? The 2025 Guard played his game, getting to his spots and knocking down shots. He averaged 19ppg on what felt like exactly 19 points I'm every game.
