Ashland hosted a team camp on Friday that featured a nice variety of northwest, northeast and central Ohio teams. In this article we'll break down seven standouts I caught on Friday at their team camp.

It makes sense to start as local as possible with a spotlight of Ashland high schools best when discussing the Ashland University team camp. Ediger was getting buckets in a variety of ways in the two games I caught today. An impressive perimeter shooter, Ediger was making shots off the catch and bounce. Ediger's most impressive bucket of the day was a crossover move that led into a pull-up 3-pointer from the top of the key. Having to create a majority of the offense himself, Ediger was tasked with beating defenders to either make a shot for himself or a teammate. Ediger is one of the top guards from his area of the state and is poised for a huge junior season with the Arrows.

I've been impressed with Berea Midpark's 2027 class for a while and both Clay and Andre' Alexander stood out this afternoon from that class. Clay is a quick and shifty point guard who is tough to stay in front of. With some strong takes to the rim, Clay had some finishes in traffic attacking both directions off the dribble. With the balanced attack of the Titans, Clay can play on or off the ball and knocked down a couple spot-up 3-pointers as well. Berea-Midpark has a young team that will go through ups and downs next season, but they will be a tough out the next three years and will only get stronger as their young core gains experience.

Emmanuel Christian once again has young talent coming through their program and Mister was getting some valuable reps as a primary playmaker from the guard position. Mister had some floaters off drives to the basket where he beat the primary defender. I thought Mister showed some decisiveness from the triple threat position, being tough to prevent from getting into the paint. Also knocking down a couple perimeter shots as well, Mister showed me some diverse scoring ability. When Emmanuel Christian moves the ball and doesn't turn it over they will be tough to beat, Mister will be a key piece to try and achieve those two basics of the game in the half-court.

I got to see Carlton for a little bit with OBC in the spring and with Hudson, they rely on Carlton to play with the ball in his hands and create more. Nice to see him play a variety of roles going from a complimentary piece on a talented 16 U roster to the main scoring option for Hudson. A wing guard who showed some passing flashes, Carlton gets a lot of eyes on him when the ball is in his hands and if he can use that defensive attention to get his teammates good looks then everybody will benefit. I also thought Carlton had some nice drives to the cup to score, using his stronger frame multiple times in the paint. Also knocking down a couple 3-pointers off the pick and pop game, Carlton can make shots from the perimeter as well.

A rising freshman, Brooks is already one of the key players for Mansfield Senior. With good quickness and the aggressiveness to get to the paint, Brooks had some tough layups in transition and attacking closeouts. Mansfield Senior wants to play fast and that plays right into the style I saw Brooks playing on Friday. I thought Brooks showed me impressive skill by finishing at the rim with both hands. Lots of upside with Brooks who should make an immediate impact at the varsity level.

I've heard good things about Cochran over the past few months but this was my first real opportunity to focus on his game in person. The 6'5 lefty stretch forward made some shots from the perimeter and has soft touch with his shots. I also thought Cochran showed patience in the paint with pump fakes and strong finishes. One of the more skilled forwards in Ohio's 2027 class.

Elyria was one of the more talented teams in attendance and Crutcher is their top returning piece. A knockdown shooter with the length and height to shoot over defenders and score in the paint, Crutcher has a lot of natural talent with the ball in his hands. I thought his passing and unselfishness to give the ball up when the defense collapsed was the key for Elyria to blow past teams on Friday. With 2026 transfer [player_tooltip player_id='2204949' first='Kendyll' last='Compton'] joining the fold and 2026 returner [player_tooltip player_id='2462579' first='Rondell' last='Grimmett'] showing some potential as a shooter, Elyria has the most talent in their conference heading into this winter. If Crutcher plays the winning brand of basketball he showed me today, the Pioneers will be favorites to repeat as SWC champions.
