Berea Midpark plays an extremely fun brand of basketball with a trio of 2027 prospects that have the freedom to play offensively how they want to. Clay was in more of a score-first mentality on Sunday with some drive and finishes at the rim after he got by his primary defender. Clay also mixed in a couple of nice skips to shooters as well. If you like scoring points, Berea Midpark should be a team you watch this winter as few teams get up and down the court as quickly as they do in Ohio.

Another lighting fast point guard, Clay was very productive as a scorer, passer and defender for a Berea-Midpark squad that played a frantic full-court press style of play with 19 points, 5 assists and over 2 steals a contest. Clay also impressed me with Ohio Basketball Club this spring, catching him at a pair of events. During the winter you can catch Clay on the hardwood but he keeps himself busy with football in the fall and track in the spring for the Titans. Impressive all around athlete in northeast Ohio’s 2027 class.

Smaller point guards have to be tough and I’ve never seen Clay back down from a challenge on the court. A high-pressure guard defensively, Clay was getting active in the paint with a tough putback layup and scoring off a smart off-ball cut. Late in the game Clay hit back-to-back deep 3-pointers that cut the deficit to just three points with two minutes to play. While it was nice seeing Clay on the grassroots circuit, I am most excited to see the continued growth of Berea-Midpark, one of the youngest teams in the state the past two seasons and are now ready to take that step into conference title contention.

I’ve been impressed with Berea Midpark’s 2027 class for a while and both Clay and Andre’ Alexander stood out this afternoon from that class. Clay is a quick and shifty point guard who is tough to stay in front of. With some strong takes to the rim, Clay had some finishes in traffic attacking both directions off the dribble. With the balanced attack of the Titans, Clay can play on or off the ball and knocked down a couple spot-up 3-pointers as well. Berea-Midpark has a young team that will go through ups and downs next season, but they will be a tough out the next three years and will only get stronger as their young core gains experience.

OBC 15 U had a lot of guard talent so it was tough to pick a standout performer but I went with

who played with a sense of urgency on the court. It’s much easier to score in transition than in the half court at the 15 U level and Clay was making sure OBC was running every chance they got. Clay had a handful of assists with drives to the paint where the defense would collapse and he’d kick to a shooter or hit a big on the block. Defensively despite being undersized, Clay has active hands and forced some turnovers on Saturday.

The most competitive game of the day went to overtime where Berea Midpark emerged victorious, due in large part to the clutch play of the freshman Clay. The Titans 2027 class has a lot of talent with four players on the varsity roster already. I was most impressed with Clay as he scored 18 points and hit some huge shots late including two 3’s in the fourth to cut the deficit to 5 and 6, then a banked 3-pointer to take the lead and another 3-pointer to take the lead in overtime. For a freshman I thought Clay made quick decisions with the ball in his hands and was fast in the open court. A name I’ll be keeping my eyes on as a multi sport athlete.
