For Westerville North, it starts with the guard play they get from their seniors. Both Young and [player_tooltip player_id='1480850' first='Tai' last='Perkins'] were locked in on Wednesday, with Young getting after it defensively. If Westerville North can turn you over with their full court press, it's tough to beat them because they turn defense into offense so quickly. The hands and constant pressure Young provides gives them the defensive firepower to turn you over. Young also knocked down a couple top of the key 3-pointers in the game I saw. Also playing off two feet when attacking the basket, Young likes the 8-10 foot pull up off a quick jump-stop. Strong performances by one of the top back-courts in central Ohio today.

For Westerville North to be good, they'll need their experienced backcourt to show up every game. For Westerville North to be great, they'll need more from their frontcourt this season. Fedak is a prospect who keeps getting better each time I watch him play and seems poised for a breakout senior season. His first move of the afternoon was a fake DHO that he drove and scored in the paint. Just a couple possessions later Fedak hit a trail 3-pointer. Fedak was also physical in the paint, putting his height advantage to work with some putback layups and offensive rebounds that helped reset the offense. Based on how far Fedak has came from his Junior season to today, he should continue to gain confidence if he stays in the gym during the fall to continue to improve his body and expand his skillset. The rebounding of Fedak might be his most important skill for Westerville North this winter.

Barberton has a nice 2025 duo with Kennerly and [player_tooltip player_id='2419933' first='De'Arion' last='Holley']. Holley caught fire against Garfield Heights from 3-point range but it was Kennerly who stood out earlier in the day against Akron STVM. Kennerly made some shots off the catch, looked the part athletically in transition and looked to push the tempo. Coming off an all-conference season for the Magics, I expect them to once again be a tough out after a 19-4 season a year ago. Kennerly did enough on Wednesday to impress me as a shooter, defender and athlete for me to buy him as a potential small college guard.

Fitting in nicely with a new school, Calo and his brother have made the move from Mentor to Lutheran West. A knockdown shooter from the outside, when Calo got time and space from 3-point range, it was going in. Despite missing a couple pieces, I was impressed with the Longhorns ability to move the ball and create second chances, that Calo converted at a high clip. If Lutheran West can continue to set Calo up with efficient looks with his feet set, he should find it easy to fit in with a talented roster.

The defending Division I state champions graduate a lot of pieces, but they have new names who are hungry to show their individual talents and continue the winning tradition. Mack is one of those names and he shot the ball at a high level off the catch. A wing guard with a good frame, Mack knocked down some shots running off screens that really impressed me. His best move in the paint was a cut that turned into a scoop layup, showing his ability to play next to senior leaders like [player_tooltip player_id='1491439' first='Quinn' last='Woidke']. For Saint Ignatius to be in the mix to run it back, they'll need 2026 guys like Mack to step up in big roles.

An impressive athlete, Berry is a new name that I found today. His highlight of the game was a dunk after a rip through move going baseline. Berry showed off his athleticism in the open court with a couple strong takes to the rim in transition and impact defensive plays. I liked the frame, size and explosiveness Berry played with. Still progressing in the half-court, Berry could use a JUCO or redshirt year if he plans on playing at the college level. Could be a worthwhile project for a program willing to develop him and work with his physical tools.

One of the top 2028 prospects in Ohio, Zeigler is already an elite shooter. With the confidence to pull from 25+ feet and a lightning quick release, Zeigler is going to make a ton of 3-pointers as a freshman for the Falcons. An impressive athlete as well with a quick first step and showing a nice pace to his game not getting sped up under pressure. Watching Zeigler with his polish and skill, it would be impossible to know he's a 2028 prospect on the court. It's very early but Zeigler appears to be one of the top rising freshman in Ohio and a name basketball fans across Ohio and the Midwest will likely hear a lot more about over the next four years.
