Josiah got things started off strong on Friday night. Physically Josiah has a strong build at 6’3-6’4 that should help him compete at Golden State Prep next season. In a matchup with Powerhouse MN he spent time playing either guard spot, where he was making smart reads with the ball and knocking down outside shots. Coleman knocked down back-to-back threes to get his team out to an early lead, and they went on to win big as Josiah continued to knock down jumpers with comfort.
Christian is competing with Powerhouse MN this weekend, and the 2024 forward out of Columbia Heights was a physical presence inside. If he caught the ball on the block, he was looking to bully his way to the basket to finish with his left hand. In most cases he’s just going to be stronger than anyone he faces this weekend, and he plays with an edge that can’t be taught. Henderson proved tough to keep away from the rim on Friday night.
Camare is developing into a nightmare to matchup with on the wing. He was running with Minnesota Select last night, where his blend of strength and handles made him difficult to stay in front of. Young showed a smooth left-to-right crossover to consistently beat his man from the wing, and once past you he can just pin you on his shoulder as he works his way to the basket. Defend him with a smaller guard and he’s just going to bulldoze his way through you to the basket. D1 Minnesota 15u just didn’t have an answer for him as he has so many ways to get to the rim and convert at a high percentage.
Minnesota Select and D1 Minnesota 15u were going back and forth for a little over half of the game, but then Amari came alive for a strong stretch early in the 2nd half. He’s another player who’s difficult to matchup with on the wing because he stands at 6’5, has some strength on him, and a quick first step to beat his man with a straight line drive. I like how hard he was working to battle on the offensive glass, and defend both on the wing and against some of the D1MN size down low. Helped turn a close game into a comfortable win in the end for his team.

You won’t find many other 6’8 guys that can shoot it like Chase does. He started the game off 3-3 from beyond the arc, and was 4-5 at one point while also having been fouled on another attempt from deep. He just floats out on the perimeter finding pockets of space, and has impressive coordination at his size to square his feet and quickly get his shot off after a pass comes his way. His comfort out on the perimeter forced the Sanford Sports bigs to defend him out on the perimeter where Chase had the advantage.

JJ was making it look effortless last night as he put in a strong performance for D1 Minnesota . He’s so dangerous running off screens for catch-and-shoot threes, but has the IQ to know when to attack a poor closeout or make an extra pass to a wide open teammate. His threat to shoot forces defenders to step out on him, and at times the Sanford Sports defense was scrambling to get a hand up on him, which opened up some of his teammates. Even though JJ was having a strong shooting night, he knew when to give it up to get an even better look for one of his teammates. Mixed in some touch finishes with his three point makes to help lead his team to a comfortable win.

D1 Minnesota had a tough time competing with Bryon’s size and physicality on the block. Defensively he’s so tough to move on the block, and nothing was coming easy at the rim when he was nearby. On the offensive end he could work his way into deep position and just turn over his left shoulder to finish with the right hand. If he was left isolated in the paint, he was likely scoring with touch. Impressed with his ability to step out onto the perimeter and comfortably knock down a three. Solid showing from the 6’9 big against scholarship level competition.
