JJ Sullivan is a 6-foot-2 postgrad playing for Hargrave Military Academy. The lavishinglefty is a lights-out shooter with underrated self-creation ability. He’s a very active mover off the ball and is quick decison maker. He can shoot off the catch put the ball on the floor to attack the closeout or create space with a stepback in rhythm. Jj impressed this weekend with improved off the dribble creation and overall creation having thrown some impressive passes along with showcasing scoring counters around the basket.

-The Hargrave senior sniper went 8/13 from the 3-point line in the two games that I watched, serving as an effective floor-spacer that gets into his shooting motion quickly off the bounce or off the catch. Sullivan’s ability to relocate as an off-ball shooter to set up lifts to the wings from the corner or back door cuts to score made it difficult for his primary defenders to be in help position. The range on his jumper allowed him to take and make some audacious deep 3s behind screens that sustained the HMA offense whenever they experienced scoring droughts. With the shooting ability and feel, he could be an All-League performer at the D3 level or help win games at a D2.

Moved to Iowa and reclassified to 2026, JJ Sullivan is one of the better shooters the state has to offer. Knockdown from almost anywhere around the three-point line, and when he gets hot, good luck stopping him. Sullivan can shoot off-the-catch, off-the-dribble and off balance.
His recruitment has been limited due to his lack of height and the fact that he is a pure shooting guard rather than a point guard or combo guard. But, once somebody notices and is willing to take a shot on an undersized two, he’ll make a college program very happy.

Sullivan hit some big shots at key moments against Minnesota Fury on Saturday. Got them out of a slump early on with a pair of corner 3’s. Carried over the hot shooting in the second half with a midrange jumper and hit three key triples to give them a 4-pt lead in the closing stages. At the end of the day, he had the hot hand when D1MN needed it most.

JJ Sullivan caught fire in the second half of the 17u title game, helping lead his team to a blowout win. The lefty guard nailed a handful of threes within just a few minutes to truly put the game out of reach. Once he got into a rhythm he was just pulling up a couple of dribbles after crossing the halfcourt line, truly showcasing his deep range. He’s been a consistent scoring option for D1 Minnesota this spring/summer, and is able to put points on the board without having to take a large number of shots. One of the best shooters in the state’s 2025 class.

JJ is one of the best offensive players in Minnesota’s 2025 class, as he is so skilled and can score in so many ways, mostly from the perimeter. He has a tight handle and has a deep bag of moves he can go to create space for an open look. He likes to get to his pull up jumper in the mid-range, as well as working off the catch for looks from beyond the arc off of passes from teammates. Sullivan has continued to improve as an athlete, now being able to play at the rim as well.

JJ was making it look effortless last night as he put in a strong performance for D1 Minnesota . He’s so dangerous running off screens for catch-and-shoot threes, but has the IQ to know when to attack a poor closeout or make an extra pass to a wide open teammate. His threat to shoot forces defenders to step out on him, and at times the Sanford Sports defense was scrambling to get a hand up on him, which opened up some of his teammates. Even though JJ was having a strong shooting night, he knew when to give it up to get an even better look for one of his teammates. Mixed in some touch finishes with his three point makes to help lead his team to a comfortable win.

JJ had an impressive scoring performance on Saturday, taking over stretches of the game. He is one of the best shot creators in the state’s 2025 class and is really good at creating separation from defenders. He was connecting with tough looks off the dribble in the mid-range or from beyond the arc. Sullivan has such a deep bag of moves he can go to in isolation situations and scored 17 points versus Orono.
