The most impactful name with PLUTO’s top EYCL team, Ali is a smooth ball handler even against pressure. Effective splitting two or attacking a tight lane, he brings quick reactions and even more exceptional skill to the table. When provided a scoring opportunity off the catch, he was lights out behind the arc. Certainly primed for a big summer and deeply intriguing upcoming season with Overland.
Casey was among the better lead guards at Manual on Saturday, bringing a twitchy playstyle that allowed him to be a constant offensive threat. A wiry strong guard, he did well changing speeds while handling the rock, capable of stepping into pull-ups in the mid-range. If he drew out multiple defenders, Casey was active making the pass to the roller or swing it along the perimeter, mitigating turnovers.
Nettles can score in droves, nearly impossible to stop from getting into the paint given his twitchy handle. An elite scorer even versus contact, do not let his slim frame discourage from the fact he is among the most polished perimeter scorers in the state.
Highlights
Espoir did well initiating contact on drives, despite being a smaller guard. A shifty playmaker with the ball, there was little opponents could do to keep him out of the paint.
Highlights
Although undersized, Bonilla was among the most impactful defensive guards at this event, all over the place scrambling for steals and deflections. There were few backcourt athletes at this event with his relentless motor, worthy of recognition for his ability to create chaos.
McKean is continuing to improve his athleticism and strength, effectively bumping opponents out of the way for pull-up jumpers.
Highlights
Esau is a smooth shotmaker off the dribble, bringing in efficient scoring versus contests and contact. Effective elevating around the rim, the guard has a bit more flare at the rim than one might expect.
Highlights
A knockdown shooter and tall playmaker, Basquez brings one of the more well rounded perimeter skillsets of anyone 6’4+ within the state.
Torres made plays happen on the defensive end, flying all over in the full court or halfcourt help side to get a hand on the ball. He did a great job getting into the ball handler’s space, actively stripping away the ball, bringing strong hands within the backcourt.
Highlights
A quick thinking playmaker, Stout was active making extra passes in the open floor. Willing to get into the thick of things, the guard was actively crashing the glass, bringing a strong frame to assert position down low.
Highlights
Garcia showed his efficient mid-range shotmaking off the dribble, lights out when opponents choose to go under on ball screens. He was excellent at setting up shotmakers in the post or for kickouts, carefully placing those passes.
