West Mania brought together some of the top shoe circuit and independent programs from the Western U.S. for a three-day event, complete with Circuit crossover games in the showcase break off at Cerritos College. In this piece we take a look at the top playmakers we saw on the weekend.
Christian Jones Christian Jones 5'9" | PG Hillcrest Prep | 2025 State AZ | 2025 | JL3
The 5-foot-10 signal caller is the perfect point guard type for a JL3 team loaded with offensive weapons. Jones is a steady ball-handler and decision-maker in open court and half court offense. He plays at his own pace, keeps his eyes up the floor and is an unselfish passer who is always looking to set teammates up for open looks.
Elzie Harrington Elzie Harrington 6'5" | PG St. John Bosco | 2025 State #25 Nation CA-S | 2025 | Strive For Greatness
Harrington’s size, skill-set and basketball IQ allow him to impact the game in a variety of ways. He can guard multiple positions, rebound and push off the defensive glass, create for himself and teammates in ball screen action and uses his athleticism and ball skills to get paint touches where is a willing passer kicks to shooters or drops off to big men for easy buckets.
Gavin Hightower Gavin Hightower 6'0" | PG Windward | 2025 State #99 Nation CA-S | 2025 | Vegas Elite
Hightower is a single-man fast break with his combination of downhill speed, body control through contact and his ability to finish much bigger than his 6-foot frame would lead one to believe. The SoCal-based point guard is dynamic in the open court where he’s an automatic paint touch with the vision and basketball IQ to make the right play for himself or a teammate.
Isaiah Johnson Isaiah Johnson 5'10" | PG Campbell Hall | 2025 State CA-S | 2025 | BTI Pro 16
Johnson is an underrated prospect on the National level but basketball followers in Southern California know what type of player he is. The 5-foot-10 lefty point guard displayed his usual steadiness as a ball-handler, decision-maker and creator in transition and half-court offense. Johnson is a great organizer of his teammates when getting them into the right spots and keeping the floor balanced.
Nik Khamenia Nik Khamenia 6'7" | SF Harvard-Westlake | 2025 State #18 Nation CA-S | 2025 | BTI Pro 16
Khamenia could have landed on any of the categories we’ll break down from the West Mania event but his ability to dribble, pass, shoot and score from any area of the floor and in any offensive situation lands him in the playmakers section. The 6-foot-8 wing can post and pass or score, knock down open jumpers and showed some feel and IQ as a creator out of ball screen action.
Semetri Carr Semetri Carr 6'1" | PG Branson | 2025 State #95 Nation CA-N | 2025 | Oakland Soldiers
Carr’s athleticism is the first thing that stands out about his game as his combination of quickness in the half-court and speed in the open court puts a ton of pressure on defenses. The 6-foot-1 point guard is a menace as an on-ball defender who uses his lateral speed to keep his assignment in front and his quick hands to tip out steals or disrupt the offensive player’s rhythm. Offensively Carr is a strong driver and finisher who knocked down a handful of catch and shoot three’s.
