Below we break down some of the top shooters we saw on the weekend.
Brayden Kyman Brayden Kyman 6'8" | SF Santa Margarita | 2026 State CA-S | Players Play 17s | 2026
The presence of a 6-foot-8 forward who can stretch the floor to the three-point line is a necessary piece with the style of play of today’s game and Kyman fits that bill. The sophomore is a knock down shooter with his feet set and his combination of size and a high release makes it difficult for defenders to close out and disrupt his shot.
Collin Haugh Collin Haugh 6'1" | SG Dana Hills | 2025 State CA-S | Elev8 Elite | 2025
Haugh has never met a shot that he doesn’t like and his self-confidence combined with his pure shooting touch both off the catch and off the dribble make him a guy who can really fill up the scoring column. The junior has every shot in the book – catch and shoot threes, off-bounce step-back threes, mid-range fadeaways – you name it and Haugh can knock it down. Haugh ranked fifth in the state in three-point makes last season (135).
Ethan Johnson | Build Your Way Elite | 2024
Johnson has the ideal shooting mechanics, release and rotation on his three-point shot and does it with deep range and multiple spot consistency off the catch. Johnson is always on balance, gets great lift on his jumper and the ball comes off his hand smoothly with great arc.
Hudson Mayes Hudson Mayes 6'2" | PG Redondo Union | 2025 State #294 Nation CA-S | Team Why Not 17s | 2025
Mayes has some throwback feel to his perimeter shooting game. The 6-foot-3 off-guard is a lethal mid-range shooter off of one or two dribbles and can knock down those 15 to 17 footers going to either hand. Mayes is also a consistent shooter off the catch from three-point range.
Jaden Hubbard Jaden Hubbard 6'3" | SG Orange Lutheran | 2024 State CA-S | Cali Rebels | 2024
The 6-foot-2 shooting guard had a 37-point effort where he knocked down nine three-pointers. The thing that makes Hubbard such a good shooter is the unconsciousness in which he shoots with. Hubbard can pull with deep range both off the catch and off the bounce and some of the shots he takes and makes are deflating to the opponnet.
Jalen Williams Jalen Williams 6'1" | CG San Marcos | 2026 State CA-S | Players Play 17s | 2026
Williams is one of the best scorers in the San Diego area and, if he continues to perform the way he did in this event, he will become a commodity well-beyond the San Diego region. The 6-foot-2 guard has smooth, repeatable and fundamental shooting mechanics off the catch and his quick release allows him to get his shot off with minimal time and space.
Jovani Ruff Jovani Ruff 6'5" | SG Long Beach Poly | 2025 State #117 Nation CA-S | Team Why Not 17s | 2025
Ruff is one of those guys who you try to keep from getting to his spots but can’t execute that game plan because of his ability to shoot and score. Ruff has seemingly unlimited range off the catch but it is his ability get to his mid-range spot off the bounce, elevate, and shoot over the top of defenders that makes him such a tough cover.
Luke Barnett Luke Barnett 6'3" | SG Mater Dei | 2026 State CA-S | Paul George Elite 16s | 2026
Barnett is the picture in the basketball dictionary under the term “spot shooter.” The 6-foot-3 shooting guard is great moving without the ball and finding open space to give teammates a target pass to. His quick release and tight shooting mechanics allows him to get his shot off quickly with compromising his fundamentals.
