Mohammadi Kara
Mohammadi Kara
Mohammadi Kara is a lean 6’10” forward with solid touch around the basket. He plays his game around the basket and in the short corners. Kara finishes with either hand strong or can dance around his defender to find an open look with his footwork and pace. He controls the ball well and has good hands on the catch, usually going right into his move. Decision making is quick and decisive. Kara is poised to see an increase in minutes and have people take notice this go round on the circuit.
Guard Christopher “Mikel” Brown Jr. has the confidence in his shot that he needs to be guarded the minute he sets foot in the gym. Brown can pull it from anywhere. His form is a bit of a push shot from the front of his body rather than an up and down motion with follow through, but with some quick fixes, his long-distance percentages can greatly improve this year. Brown has added muscle to his frame as well and can take it to the basket effectively and finish on either side. The most impressive growth in Brown’s game is his passing ability and IQ though. The way he draws defenders when driving the lane frees up lob opportunities or kick outs to teammates floating around the arc. Getting those paint touches leads to more freedom of mobility around Brown. Having a lead guard who is looking for his teammates and getting them touches keeps everyone happy and usually leads to Ws.
Next up is Sam Osayi, a rim running big man, who excels on the defensive glass and is the engine that makes this team go. Osayi has great hands on the catch and can finish strong on either side of the rim. He will be able to showcase more of his offensive game this year on the circuit as well.
Momolu Kamara
Momolu Kamara
This year on the circuit, Austin River Southeast Elite is stacked with a multitude of bigs. Momolu Kamara is another name to keep an eye on. Kamara somehow just always ends up in the dunker spot and on the receiving end of great passes from Brown or his other teammates. He can throw it down with ferocity or spring up for that offensive rebound and a quick put back after a miss. Watch for some big time dunks from him.
Maodo Malick
Maodo Malick
Maodo Malick is the type of big man you want anchoring a defense on the court. He is a true vocal presence on the court and communicates with his teammates effectively. Malick’s game is centered around control and athleticism. He never appears rushed in his movement and seems to be always looking to dunk on his opponent. Malick can be a rebound and rim run player, catch a look in secondary motion in the post and fall into a back down-turn around jumper, or use his footwork and up-and-under moves to get layup looks.
Austin Rivers Southeast Elite squad has set itself up to make a big splash this year on the circuit so keep your eyes on their games and these players if you want those big highlights.
