Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Fresh off an HGSL title last summer and a national prep championship in the winter, Osayi is back for one last run with TNE as the New England grassroots powerhouse now takes its turn on the MHC circuit. With towering length that allows him to play far bigger than his listed size, Osayi makes his living on the defensive end as an imposing rim protector and relentlessly effective glass-cleaner. He routinely beats opposing bigs down the floor to establish early position offensively, showing good hands and sneaky touch as a finisher near the rim and from intermediate range. With comfort excelling within his role and experience at the highest levels of prep basketball, it’s hard not to feel like mid-major programs are missing the boat on Osayi in the 2025 class even with all attention shifted toward the transfer portal.

I loved his effort coming off a back injury giving it his all, hustling especially on defense. He plays with active hands/arms, denies the ball well, tags players and had a beautiful high pointed the ball block on a taller opponent who is regarded as a Top 300 player in the country. Intelligence on offense is a plus with him knowing the offensive sets/plays and him having an high IQ play by setting a box out screen to clear a path for his teammate to finish at the rim. He is a strong player who loves to crash the boards.

Next up is Sam Osayi, a rim running big man, who excels on the defensive glass and is the engine that makes this team go. Osayi has great hands on the catch and can finish strong on either side of the rim. He will be able to showcase more of his offensive game this year on the circuit as well.

The 6-8 junior power forward is strong and shifty when it comes to scoring on the low block. His soft touch around the rim has continued to improve with more and more touches as well as gaining confidence in developing a mid-range game on the offensive end. On the defensive end, Osayi has a quick first step where he can battle on the glass as well as run the floor exceptionally well. Look for a huge stock in Osayi’s recruitment as we gear into the spring and summer months, as he’s gained interest from numerous mid-major schools.

The 6-8 junior is very springy and athletic when it comes to on the boards, as he is very strong and skilled on the interior. Osayi is very quick for his size as well when it comes to scoring in transition where he has a good feel for shooting from the mid-range. He is also sensational when it comes to scoring off put-backs or lobs thrown at the front of the rim. On the defensive end, Osayi plays a very versatile role and can often be seen guarding out on the perimeter.

The 6-9 rising junior has length and athleticism where he could be considered a combo forward. Osayi is at his best when he is finishing around the rim whether it’s off an offensive rebound or off the catch. On the defensive end, he is an elite shot blocker and limits the opposition from getting second chance scoring opportunities. He can also defend the perimeter at a high level as he has great lateral quickness for his size. Excited to see the leap Osayi makes as he heads into his junior season.

The 6-9 rising junior power forward is still developing his true position. He did it all on the defensive end whether it was his rebounding, shot blocking or limiting the opposition from getting any second chance scoring opportunities. Osayi continues to have a great summer for Southeast Elite and showed the college coaches that he can be a big time prospect. Keep an eye on this prospect as he gears up for his next two seasons at the high school level.
