This gives prospects who feel they are underrated or being recently discovered a chance to show off their game or make themselves a spot on the radar. Let’s take a look at some big-time contributors who made significant contributions for their teams during the semifinals and finals.
Deontrell Barrett Deontrell Barrett 6’0″ | PG Lancaster | 2024 TX was a clutch defender for Lancaster over the weekend and helped them clinch the 5A State Championship game once again. Let’s examine some strong things Barrett does well:
- t
- Plays physical, full court defense. He was never afraid to pick up his matchup the whole time they handled the rock all weekend.
- Playmaking vision was elite. It was almost instant every time he had the rock his possession that he knew where his teammates were on the floor the entire offensive set.
- My favorite part to watch about his skillset was that you could tell how much passion Deontrell plays with. He made hustle plays and was motivating his teammtes constantly throughout the contest.
Parker was a huge role player in his team’s semifinal win in the state playoffs. Nasaun showed consistency and hard play on both ends. Let’s dive deeper into his analyzing his game:
- t
- Displayed tenaciousness and physicality crashing the boards on both ends. Parker was easily the most aggressive player in this game when it came to scoring and playing defense as well as rebounding in the paint.
- His outlet passing was a thing of beauty to watch as several times he was able to snatch the rebound off the glass over the outstretched hands of opponents and chunk the ball deep to an open teammate downcourt for an easy assist.
- Nasaun continually showed ability to score consistently from all three levels when his team needed a bucket. He had multiple ways to beat his defender and get an easy 2- or 3-point basket with the ball in his hands.
Jojo was by far and away the best scorer for Ellison in their semifinal victory during state championship weekend. His offense was something to behold in itself. but his defense was also impressive as well:
- t
- His ball control was impressive when he was the main playmaker on offense. He facilitated well and always knew how to control the tempo of the game in favor of his team.
- Rarely turned the ball over and knew when to pass the rock for an easy assist to a wide-open teammate.
- His lateral quickness was impressive as he constantly hounded his matchup on defense and this led to several transition buckets coming off of steals where he masterfully picked the pocket of the offensive player.
