2024 Nic Codie is widely known as the top overall player in the 2024 class. With that type of pressure it’s guaranteed he’s up against the best game plans and players every time he steps on the court. This weekend he showed why he’ll be elite regardless of what you throw at him. To start, he’s a double double machine, he takes pride in rebounding and it impacts the game on both sides of the floor. Offensively he’s really converted into more of a stretch 4 which will be his position at Texas next year. He can handle the ball, run plays and put the offensive in the best position possible to score. His IQ is notable as well, he’s seeing things way before they happen. Tough at the rim, soft touch but powerful when he finishes. He probably gets fouled every time he touches the ball and you start to notice the refs looking to balance things by not calling every foul. Defensively he can cover your whole paint area with a monster wingspan he’s also a big time shot blocker. Recently committing to Texas, Nic nearly had no offers or attention at this time last year. He’s just getting started development wise and is one to watch this year for sure at power house Newman Smith.

Nicholas Codie, the top-ranked prospect in Texas, immediately made a game-changing impact as a defender. He harassed his opponents with his length, reach, and quick footwork, applying relentless ball pressure and forcing over-dribbles. Codie effectively challenged jumpshots on the perimeter, even managing to get his hand on a few shots, showcasing his high motor on defense. His cutting ability, especially on backdoor plays, was impressive, making him a valuable lob or duck-in option. Codie was a powerful finisher, capable of slam dunks in transition and taking off from outside of the lane with authority. Codie’s tremendous energy extended beyond his playing time; he was actively engaged on the bench, encouraging and cheering on his team. His contributions went beyond the stat sheet, as he made the game easier for everyone around him with his communication, facilitating, cutting, rebounding, and innate ability to score within the flow of the offense.

Nic Codie is proving to be everything a college coach could possible want from a frontcourt prospect in today’s game of basketball. Codie is a mobile, agile, bouncy, and well-balanced player. He continuously stands out as a very reliable rim runner who sprints the middle of the floor with a purpose with his guards always knowing that he’s there trailing which gives them an easy drop off passing option. The 6-foot-9 center often gets above the rim and throws it down strong with two-hands consistently when receiving the ball in the paint. Recently Codie has received 6 high major offers since the summer began with many more on the way. The potential is sky high for Nicholas Codie, he’s improving at a rapid pace and it won’t be long before he’s top 2 in the state.

Seeing him at Sam Houston prospect camp last season put me on notice. Codie is a determined individual who handles business on the hardwood. The versatility he obtains at the forward position is valuable, which is fueled by the mentality he plays with. Most recently picked up an offer from University of Kansas, before them, Houston, Arizona State, Illinois, Miss. State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Cal arrived at the table early. Can operate at all three levels. Soft touch around the rim, and can hit open jumpers. Agile forward that can guard on the perimeter. Have a balance of strength and finesse when scoring the ball.

Has a 7 ft 4 Wingspan that results in multiple blocked shots a game. Very quick to the basket resulting in tons of athletic finishes. Also possesses great IQ of the game and is a great facilitator in the paint.

Codie is a kid with great upside. First off he has the basketball playing frame. Six foot eight with a 7-2 wingspan he is able to naturally block shots and rim protect. This summer he will look to expand his game by demonstrating an ability to consistently knock down the mid range, and or the pick and pop three. The athleticism and rebounding is always there and he plays with great energy. I would like to see him develop some “go to” low post moves such as a jump hook, or up and under. With some footwork training he can make a team better at the next level.
