Bechen was dominant in the Lynx’s 1A championship run, posting stat lines of 25-9-5-1, 32-7-3-2, and 24-7-5-1 en route to the state title. The 6-2 guard had certain points in each game where you could tell that he decided it was time for him to take over, and he did just that.

Jirak did it in a different way than Bechen did, but he was just about as dominant in the 4A tournament as Bechen was in 1A. The 6-9 big man impacted the game on both ends of the floor, providing rim protection, interior scoring, and great passing throughout the week, helping lead Valley to their second straight 4A title.

The captain of the 4A All-Tournament team, Stinson was great on both ends of the floor all week for the Tigers, scoring efficiently from all three levels, controlling the glass, and getting his teammates involved. He’s a versatile, tough defender and an all-around high IQ contributor on both sides of the ball.

Despite playing in just two games (everyone else on these first two teams played for state championships), Van Kalsbeek’s 27 made field goals ranked second for the week, regardless of class. The 6-6 future Northwestern College wing was outstanding in MOC’s two games, scoring 37 and 31 points, and showcasing his ability to take over games on both ends of the floor. His strong play at the state tournament, in part, helped him take home the 2024 Iowa Mr. Basketball title.

Hodges posted double-doubles in all three games for the Knights, going 19-12, 20-13, and 11-10. The 6-3 wing was also stellar on the defensive end, assigned the opposing team’s most dangerous scorer in all three games and doing a great job limiting them. Those three players averaged 18.5 points a game on 50.2% shooting (45.3 3P%) during the year, but Hodges held them to 9.3 points on 24.2% shooting (18.2 3P%) on the way to the 3A title.

The future Iowa tight end had a pair of huge rebounding games for the Go-Hawks in the quarterfinals and championship, pulling down 14 boards in each of those games. He’s an athletic, physical 6-6 wing who can score from all three levels.

Frazell had an explosive scoring game in the semifinals, going for 31 points on 12-14 shooting to help lead WSR into the 3A championship game. The 6-6 sharpshooter is a highly efficient scorer who moves really well without the ball in his hands.
