Continue ReadingWe’ve had a ton of movement in the top ten, mostly due to taking out the post grad players and adding the prep/private school players in WV. Notably Linsly School and Huntington Prep feature players that both have been ranked in the top ten. We’ll break those down as well as the rest of those top ten ranked prep players in West Virginia.
Mikey Johnson Mikey Johnson 6’3″ | SF Huntington | 2024 State WV has climbed the ranks to our tenth spot and rightfully so. The 6’3″ wing has had a more than outstanding senior season while leading his team through one of WV’s toughest schedules. Johnson is a compelling combination of speed, strength and athleticism. Johnson is a fierce competitor on both ends of the floor and has put up consistent and solid numbers including 18ppg, 8 rebounds per and 4.5 assists. Its easy to see why he’s gained recruiting interest as of late and will certainly find himself on a roster next fall.
Quinton Burlenski Quinton Burlenski 6’2″ | SG Wheeling Central Catholic | 2024 State WV probably doesn’t get enough credit for the job he’s done. The D2 recruit and do everything guard for Wheeling Central has put together another great season while leading his somewhat young squad to another state tournament berth. Burlenski is a true combo-guard in that he’s very skilled facilitating and has great court vision and judgement of tempo and possesses great court IQ. Burlenski regularly hits big shots when needed while taking on tough assignments defensively. Look for Quinton to get a couple more D2 offers soon after the state tournament and make a decision quickly.
Zion Blevins Zion Blevins 6’7″ | PF Chapmanville | 2024 State WV is a top ten stronghold for reasons that are quite obvious. Blevins leads one of the state’s most notable programs back to Charleston once again and he of course is one of their main reasons for success. Blevins has a college ready body and guards spots 1 through 5. No question one of WV’s most versatile players which is why he is getting high level D2 consideration based on his willingness and effectiveness to guard anyone on the floor and with his size it translates well to the next level.
Zycheus Dobbs Zycheus Dobbs 6’2″ | CG Fairmont | 2024 State WV is one of the most interesting and fun players to watch in our eyes. The sturdy built guard is literally a swiss army knife on the court. A true “baller” if you will, Dobbs can play any position and guard any position if needed. With excellent guard skills Dobbs is a bucket as soon as he hits the floor with a great knack for getting deep in the defense and creating. Already D2 offered look for Dobbs to possibly gain another offer or two and commit soon after the state tournament where he’ll lead his Fairmont Sr squad.
Ammar Maxwell Ammar Maxwell 6’3″ | SG Shady Spring | 2024 State WV is the quintessential long and athletic shooting guard. He’s checking in at number six not only based on his offers and court performance but also his marketability as a recruit. He’s an athletic 6’3″ who could possibly grow just a bit more and be a big athletic guard at the next level. Already offered at the next level, we believe there are several D2’s that will have strong consideration after the state tournament next week that could possibly result in additional offers.
Jayallen Turner Jayallen Turner 6’5″ | SF Charleston Catholic | 2024 State WV has had a senior season for the ages. Leading his team back to defend their state title in WV’s AA division, Turner also enters the tournament as Charleston Catholic’s all time leading scorer which is remarkable at a school with a rich basketball tradition. Turner is one of the state’s most relentless (possibly best in some opinions) defenders while a strong and downhill player on offense who finishes every play. Turner has D2 offers but has had some interest from lower level D1’s and after next week his recruiting direction could go one of several different ways. Stay tuned.
Naseef Lubowa Naseef Lubowa 6’4″ | SF Linsly School | 2024 State WV who originally hails from the Los Angeles area was a main cog in the Dave Wojcik machine called Linsly basketball. Lubowa who stands somewhere between 6’3″ and 6’4″, depending on the recruiting service, is projected as a D1 shooting guard with standing offers form San Diego University as well as at least one Ivy League offer. We’ll keep you updated on this prospect’s offers and/or commitment when its available in the next recruiting update piece.
Dillon Tingler Dillon Tingler 6’7″ | SF Huntington Prep | 2024 State #299 Nation WV has been a mainstay for the Huntington Prep program for the last two and a half years. Tingler quickly made a national name for himself in his junior year with displays of playmaking and a consistent stroke from deep. Add up all those skills and put on a 6’8″ frame and you come up with a D1 recruit and commit. Tingler while boasting several offers from all over the US recently committed to Eastern Michigan of the MAC conference.

Sharron Young Sharron Young 6’0″ | PG Morgantown | 2024 State #292 Nation WV is one of WV’s best players not just this year, but we believe when all is said and done will be one of the best players of that last twenty years. Young who’s committed to Akron should compete for playing time immediately and have a sizable impact. Sharron maybe viewed a bit small for a power 5 p0int guard but he really has no glaring weaknesses. We’d anticipate a very successful college career after taking his Morgantown High School squad to his last state tournament to defend their title.

Kiir Kuany Kiir Kuany 6’8″ | C Huntington Prep | 2024 State WV is described as an athletic and long defender with a great knack for offensive rebounds and quick put backs. He’s been noted as being able to guard multiple positions including guards on the perimeter which is what high level basketball requires in today’s form. Kuany has offers from Indiana St, Youngstown St, Eastern Michigan and Arkansas-Little Rock.
