Greater Neuse River Conference Player of the Year: Justice Mitchell Justice Mitchell 6'6" | SF Clayton | 2025 State NC , Clayton
6-foot-6 forward/wing Justice Mitchell Justice Mitchell 6'6" | SF Clayton | 2025 State NC takes home this year’s Player of the Year award in the Greater Neuse River Conference. Mitchell took home roughly 59.4 percent of the votes while his teammate Andrew Grimes Andrew Grimes 6'8" | PF Clayton | 2025 State #307 Nation NC took home roughly 17.8 percent of the vote. Cam Reyes Cam Reyes 6'0" | CG Garner | 2025 State NC took home roughly 16.8 percent of the vote for Garner High as the Greater Neuse River Conference regular season champion. South Garner big man Najai Hines Najai Hines 6'9" | C South Garner | 2025 State NC took home fourth place with roughly 5.9 percent of the vote.
Mitchell’s victory in the Player of the Year column comes off a stellar season in conference action for him. He led the conference in scoring (19.8 PPG), finished second in rebounds per game (9.7) and total rebounds (223) while recording 11 double-doubles, also second in the conference. He’s a big reason why the Comets put together a 19-6 record and finished second in the conference standings at 12-2. Clayton was 8-3 in games he recorded a double-double and lost just twice when he put up 20+ points. He’s been a force to be reckoned with alongside Andrew Grimes Andrew Grimes 6'8" | PF Clayton | 2025 State #307 Nation NC in the painted area and on the perimeter.
Mitchell put up a career-high 31 points on 11/16 FG and 3/3 from 3-PT land along with 10 rebounds against South Garner back on Jan. 30 in a 69-65 victory. He closed out the conference schedule with 22 points, 12 rebounds, six assists ad three steals in a 90-63 victory over Corinth Holders. He shot 37 percent from deep on the year while knocking down 16 3-pointers and showed off his impressive motor around the painted area scoring the basketball. He led the team in field goal percentage this season at 58 percent as well. He’s emerged as quite the two-way presence in the frontcourt over the past few months and it’s showing in the results with Clayton High. He’ll be a name to keep an eye on in North Carolina’s 2025 class as conference tournaments begin this week.
