Hines is a big, physical presence in the paint who anchors the defense. He rebounds at a high level, consistently securing boards on both ends. His size and strength allow him to contest shots and alter opponents’ finishes around the rim. Offensively, he provides toughness inside and creates second-chance opportunities with his effort.

It was a huge weekend for Hines, finally getting to showcase his ability in front of a large contingent of college coaches after generating national buzz seemingly out of nowhere this winter having switched focus from football and dominating the state. As he did all season, he answered the bell again in Memphis with 3 double-doubles in four games as the Rens remained undefeated with a 4-0 record. Continuing a theme from the winter, Hines was often a man among boys in the paint, averaging 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 4.25 blocks while showcasing a high-level blend of power, explosiveness, and underlying skill. His weekend was highlighted by a 17pt-15reb-9blk outing in an OT win against regional rival PSA Cardinals. With high-majors beginning to increasingly vie for his services, it just remains to be seen whether Hines goes to school this fall or elects to take a post-grad year to continue to add seasoning before enrolling with the class of 2026.

I caught the rivalry game between the NY Rens and PSA Cardinals and it’s safe to say there is no love lost between those two programs. I really liked the activity Hines played with on both ends of the court, finishing with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Defensively, Hines protected the rim without fouling and was credited with nine blocked shots! I also was impressed by the soft hands Hines showed and some strong screens that he set. Impressive production for a center on one of the best grassroots teams in the country.

As big a stock-riser as there was in the country this winter, Hines came from completely off the radar as a former football recruit and blew up into one of the nation’s top unsigned bigs, attracting a swath of mid and high-major attention along the way. The mean, mountainous two-way paint presence known for good reason as “Baby Shaq” will now take his talents to the EYBL this spring, looking to sharpen his skillset while gaining further experience and getting in front of college coaches in a real way for the first time. As prolific a rebounder as you’ll find with sticky hands and a nonstop motor in pursuit of the ball, Hines is a man amongst boys inside while also flashing some polish to his footwork in traffic and capable touch as a finisher with either hand. Still carrying some extra heft from his football days, he carries it well while getting off the ground with surprising ease and flashing an ability to extend out to the perimeter on D. The ceiling is high given Hines’ explosive production despite such limited experience, but the motor and physical presence offer a floor that can also get him on the floor early this fall for the right program at the next level.

As he’s become accustomed to doing to any and every opposing frontcourt he’s faced throughout his year in the Garden State, Hines imposed his will with a dominant performance in the paint. Using his natural physical gifts (a bruising frame, soft hands, nimble feet, and explosive leaping ability) and an insatiable desire to beat down the opposition, he wreaked havoc as a rebounder, rim protector, and interior finisher. Multiple highlight-reel slams were complemented by emphatic blocks and soft-touch finishes via acrobatic moves on the block. When all was said and done, Hines had his 26th double-double in as many games on the year, with a state championship as the cherry on top in a historic season during his lone high school year in the state.

Hines dominated the Group 4 Semifinals with 20 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter. A clutch performer. A traditional big man, he controls the paint with his back-to-the-basket play, strong footwork, and defensive presence. His agility and athleticism, honed from being a highly recruited Division 1 football prospect. Matchup nightmare on both ends. Returning to Plainfield from North Carolina, he has quickly established himself as a key force in their success. Hines impacts the game in every facet.

is a physically imposing interior paint presence. With great instincts in the paint on both sides of the floor, Hines is able to often times finish above the rim as well as protect the paint on the defensive side of the ball.
With expected performances that’ll more than likely see Hines finishing emphatically over guys at the rim as well as protecting the rim and blocking shots on the defensive end, we could see Hines break out before the end of his senior year and see some schools get involved in his recruitment.
