Continue ReadingThis past week in Columbus I saw some of the top team plays in some big-time conference games. Tuesday night I watched Delaware Hayes take sole control over the OCC – Capital division as they beat Westerville North, 72-66. Then on Friday night, I was in a packed gym for Bishop Hartley’s win over Central Catholic League opponent Columbus DeSales, 55-48. This article is talking about the Top Guards I’ve seen from these games.
Good luck trying to guard Jaden Calloway Jaden Calloway 6’2″ | SG Bishop Hartley | 2025 State OH . This kid is as quick and shifty as they come. He is extremely difficult to guard 1 on 1. He is really good at attacking the defender’s top foot and making them flip their hips. Next thing you know they are off balance and Calloway is blowing by them for a bucket. Even though Calloway can score with ease he doesn’t. He is a very mature guard who showed this by controlling the game for the majority of it. When Hartley has control of the game it is because Calloway was controlling it. He controlled the pace and the offense Hartley wanted to run. He has a great feel for the game. Bishop Hartley has a real chance of making a run this postseason and the guard play will be a big reason why.
Highlights
Perkins is a really nice skilled junior guard. He does an excellent job of reading the defenders and making moves off of what they give him. He also has a secondary move to go to that gets him in a position to score the ball. He has a good shot that can hurt you from deep but is more comfortable putting the ball on the ground and getting to the rim. He has some great touch around the rim. He consistently makes tough shots. Just shows the talent this guard has.
Young is a guard that has that build to him. He is a physical guard who absorbs and uses contact really well. It is showcased when he is driving to the basket. He is a straight-line driver that always gets to his spot. He elevates high to finish around the rim. He is a score-first point guard. He has some great length that is showcased with some tough finishes he has. He gets to the line a lot and is efficient from the stripe. He scores and shoots it in high volume. A good athlete as well. Complete player with time to add to his game.
Perkins is a freshman guard who is not afraid of the moment at all. He is an undersized point guard but plays so much bigger than his height. He is ultra quick and shifty. He makes some very skilled moves when attacking the basket that is hard to stay in front of. He is a really good finisher as well. Does it well with both hands. He comes off the bench for Westerville North confident and ready to score and make an impact. He does not force something that isn’t there and also made good passes when they were open. This freshman has A LOT of potential. His bag will only get deeper.
