These squads are two of the top “prep” teams in the region and their rosters are stacked with college prospects. In short, this was a highly anticipated contest.
This game did not disappoint. The quality of play was extremely high. A thirty second shot clock was used, so the game had an entertaining pace to it. The stars shined and the role players were tremendous as well. The only disappointment was that George School’s all-state big man Luke Bevilacqua Luke Bevilacqua 6'10" | C George School | 2025 State #68 Nation PA did not take the court because of illness.
In the end, Penn Charter was victorious (86-71), thanks to the outstanding play of Jake West Jake West 6'1" | PG William Penn Charter | 2025 State #193 Nation PA and a barrage of made threes by their entire rotation.
Below is a review of the prospects who impressed during Penn Charter’s win over George School.
Penn Charter
TJ Bryson TJ Bryson 5'10" | CG William Penn Charter | 2025 State PA – 5’10″ / 2025 / East Coast Power / Combo Guard: Bryson (8 pts.) is a prospect flying under the radar on this stacked PC roster. He did a solid job of generating points off the dribble and in the mid-range. With his speed and elusive handles, Bryson can also push the fast break to score or distribute.
Matt Gilhool Matt Gilhool 6'11" | PF William Penn Charter | 2025 State #76 Nation PA – 6’10” / 2025 / Philly Pride UAA / Power Forward: There is not much left to write about Gilhool. He is widely considered one of the top stretch-4 prospects in the state and yesterday was just more evidence of why. He scored 11 points (1 3PM) in the 1Q on his way to 17 points total. Gilhool grabbed 11 boards yesterday too. His combination of size, athleticism, accurate shooting, and interior skills is unique. Gilhool holds numerous DI offers.
Jamal Hicks Jr Jamal Hicks Jr 6'2" | CG William Penn Charter | 2025 State PA – 6’2″ / 2025 / Philly Pride Select / Combo Guard: As the season has progressed, Hicks has continued to prove that he can score the ball at all three levels. Yesterday, he splashed 3 triples on his way to 18 points. Still, it was the dribble-drive buckets and the offensive rebounds he converted on in the 4Q that impressed us the most.
Kai Shinholster Kai Shinholster 6'5" | SG William Penn Charter | 2025 State #133 Nation PA – 6’3″ / 2025 / K-Low Elite / Shooting Guard: With three of his teammates hitting for 17 or more points, it was quiet, but good afternoon for Shinholster (9 points). He displayed his trademark high percentage three-point stroke as well as the speed and athleticism to score in the open court. Shinholster holds offers from Hofstra, UTEP and Robert Morris.
Carter Smith – 6’2” / 2028 / Triple Threat / Combo Guard: This eighth grader started and made significant contributions yesterday for PC. Smith recorded 10 points (1 3PM), but that his point total does not reflect the full impact Smith had on this win. In addition to scoring, Smith rebounded well, was a plus defender and consistently made the extra pass. Smith is a fast, athletic, and instinctive prospect with unlimited potential.
Jake West Jake West 6'1" | PG William Penn Charter | 2025 State #193 Nation PA – 6’3″ / 2025 / Team Final EYBL / Combo Guard: The growth is West’s point guard skills from 2022-23 to this season is extraordinary. His ball handling, distribution skills, and ability to control the pace of game were all extremely evident yesterday. Yes, he can still score from anywhere on the court and at every level (20 points; 3 3PM), but he is now an impressive floor general too. West holds a dozen division one offers.
George School
Kasey Fleming Kasey Fleming 6'3" | SG George | 2026 State PA – 6’3″ / 2026 / Philly Revolution / Shooting Guard: With Luke Bevilacqua Luke Bevilacqua 6'10" | C George School | 2025 State #68 Nation PA missing this game, Fleming saw increased touches and he took advantage of that opportunity. Fleming opened the game showing once again that he is a 3-point ace by draining 2 threes in the 1Q. He drained 4 treys total in this contest. Fleming is sneaky athletic and can play in transition too. In addition to scoring 18 points, Fleming competed on the boards.
Tristen Guillouette Tristen Guillouette 6'9" | C George School | 2024 State PA – 6’9″ / 2024 / NJ Scholars Elite / Power Forward: Since transferring to GS, Guillouette has become a double-double machine. On Saturday that trend continued as he dominated the paint at both ends. When the Tristen Guillouette Tristen Guillouette 6'9" | C George School | 2024 State PA show was over, he had recorded 23 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Guillouette dropped a three-ball and threw in a couple of blocks for good measure. He recently picked up an offer from FGCU.
Luke Melniczak Luke Melniczak 6'2" | CG George School | 2025 State PA – 6’3″ / 2025 / Philly Revolution / Shooting Guard: This versatile, lefty two-guard is quick and owns an extremely accurate jump shot. Plus, Melniczak (9 points) possesses solid handles and a high basketball IQ. So, he can serve as a secondary ball handler when needed.
Tyler Sutton Tyler Sutton 6'1" | PG George School | 2027 State PA – 6’2″ / 2027 / NJ Scholars EYBL / Combo Guard: Sutton is one of the quickest and most elusive scoring guards in Pennsylvania. Thus, he thrives in the open court. On Saturday he also displayed an improved 3-point stroke as he buried two deep triples. Sutton plays with a poise beyond his years and never gets sped up. His tenacious man-to-man defense was noteworthy as well.
