Eight programs from inside the Top 50 in our national rankings, according to MaxPreps will be on display, with teams featuring three different states. Here is a look at the top guards to watch for this week:
The 6-0 junior guard plays with a ton of confidence and is super-skilled when he has the basketball in his hands. Reece can make defenders pay whether he can shoot from beyond the arc or on the attack towards the basket. Reece is also a persistent passer when it comes to finding open shooters on the move or the swing. Defensively, Reece has a good knack for jumping the passing lanes where he forces a ton of turnovers which lead to baskets on the other end.
The 6-6 senior shooting guard and Iowa State commit is one of the top 2-way prospects playing in this week’s Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament. Offensively, Indrusaitis has a balanced jump shot that he can knock down from 15-18 feet away from the basket whether it’s off the bounce or catch. He is also a dynamic playmaker who has a smooth handle where he can be the primary point guard in certain rotations. Defensively, he makes havoc for opposing guards as he has a strong nose on-the-ball where he can sneak by to get steals which lead to transition buckets the other way.
The 5-10 freshman guard plays with a ton of poise and confidence at both ends of the floor where he has a strong knack for jumping the passing lanes. Offensively, Daughtry is a true three-level scorer as well as playing with a bode of toughness where he is unafraid when it comes to finishing at the rim with contact. Daughtry is going to be a name to keep tabs on as his game continues to improve night in and night out.
Highlights
The 6-1 senior guard and Sam Houston State signee has one of the best IQs from the guard position in the state. His handle and toughness have spoken volumes about his game since the beginning of his sophomore season where he has a strong knack for scoring off the bounce. Defensively, Taylor plays with a ton of activity where he can guard on and off the ball at a high level. Offensively, he continues to make his teammates better and plays under control without turning the ball over.
The 6-1 senior guard and Baylor signee is the engine starter for Montverde Academy. Offensively, Wright can score at any time as well as create for his teammates on the offensive end as he brings his multi-level skillset. Defensively, Wright always makes the right reads as well as applying pressure on the opposing wings. He is also an above-average rebounder for his size where he can dictate the pace and is unafraid when it comes to pushing the basketball up the floor.
The 6-4 senior guard and Washington signee is a lead and confident prospect who plays with a combination skillset of size and speed. Offensively, Diallo has a ton of creativity where he is a good passer and has good handles of the basketball. He can also sneak by multiple defenders and finish above the rim as he’s not the quickest prospect. Defensively, Diallo has got more comfortable when it comes to guarding the ball as his instincts and playing under control have continued to improve. He also utilizes his strength and physicality where he can switch onto quicker guards in the half-court.
The 6-1 freshman guard is your traditional point guard where he can facilitate for his teammates, as well as get buckets of his own. Offensively, Fuentes is a pure three-level scorer who can make the opposition pay if he’s left uncovered. Defensively, Fuentes is an absolute pest when it comes to guarding the ball as he is constantly applying pressure forcing the opposition into making a mistake. Fuentes has already received offers from Albany, Radford, and Stetson University.
