After previously providing the standouts from the AM slate of games. Following is a group of standouts from the trio of night contests.
Brady Swartz Brady Swartz 6'7" | SG Grand Rapids Northview | 2025 State MI 6-5 2025 Grand Rapids Northview (pictured) The Wildcats did not have their best day offensively. Dropping their first game of the year to Detroit King. However Swartz played well and continued his ascent up recruiting boards in the 2025 class. With his physical development in the past year. Has morphed into a three level scorer Gets to his spots easily and has the size and athleticism to elevate over most defenders. Outside of the physical development. The skill set has really come along as well. Is a much better ball handler. This has transformed him from a spot up shooter into a player who can create his own shot. The outside shot has always been textbook. Is also a creative finisher at the rim. Put up a double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Moses Blackwell Moses Blackwell 5'8" | PG Warren Lincoln | 2025 State MI 5-7 2025 Warren Lincoln The diminutive point guard effectively controlled the tempo in the Abe’s thrilling 49-47 buzzer beating victory over undefeated Grand Rapids Christian. That might seem like a throwaway line or cliche. However Saturday games are the one of the rare events in which a shot clock is employed. When you hold the high powered Eagles to 47 points with a shot clock you are really controlling the contest. Let’s get the obligatory comment out of the way. Blackwell is not very big. However keeps defenses from smothering him with shiftiness and extremely deep range on the perimeter. Had a few absolute bombs on Saturday. Finished with a game high 14 points in the statement making dramatic victory.
Markus Blackwell Markus Blackwell 6'1" | CG Warren Lincoln | 2025 State MI 6-1 2025 Warren Lincoln Still appeared to be shaking off some rust after missing some time due to injury. Only shot 3-13 from the field. However seemed to warm up as the game tightened up late. While his backcourt partner (Moses) is a point guard all the way. Markus shows the potential to play both backcourt positions. Displayed excellent court awareness late in the clutch. Calmly dealt with pressure as Christian aggressively used up all their team fouls trying to prevent a final shot. Then when they were out of fouls. Blackwell had the ball knocked away on the final drive. Without panicking retrieved it in the backcourt. Checked the time and found an open player in the corner for the game winning three.
Cameron Hutson Cameron Hutson 6'5" | SF East Lansing | 2025 State MI 6-5 2025 East Lansing Like the rest of his team. Is off to an excellent start in his junior campaign. Gets after it on both ends of the court. However really stands out on the defensive end. The intensity is complemented by well schooled fundamental technique. Moves his feet and gets his hands into passing lanes. Turns defense into offense quickly. Is tough to stop with a step out in transition. Explodes to the basket and finishes easily above the rim. Offensively operates like a seasoned veteran in the mid range. The son of former Spartan, Andre. Cameron is rapidly making a name for himself.
KJ Torbert KJ Torbert 6'4" | SF East Lansing | 2026 State MI 6-4 2026 East Lansing Coming into the season, I wondered how quickly Torbert would adjust to a deep and established East Lansing squad after transferring from Okemos. That seems like an unfounded concern at this point. Torbert is not only fitting in. He is flourishing with the Trojans. Already a next level finisher as a sophomore. Had an handful of emphatic dunks against the host squad. Like Hutson, gets out in transition quickly. Is a good shooter with a smooth and fluid release. The ball handling will improve as he matures. That should take his game to the next level. Another Michigan St legacy prospect who is quickly establishing his own reputation.
