Some guards are more scoring oriented, and then there are some you trust with the ball in your hands to lead your offense and effectively share the ball. Read below for a half dozen guys that have caught my eye as some top passers and assist guys around the state.
Both of the Daniel brothers have been excellent facilitators to start the year, with CC beating the brakes off teams and allowing them to initiate the offense. Chase has excelled, with 8.8 APG through 5 contests, and an AST/TO ratio of 7.33. Catawba has gotten a steal in both of them, and the dynamic duo will look to take their scoring and playmaking to the collegiate level.
Both of the Daniel brothers have been excellent facilitators to start the year, with CC beating the brakes off teams and allowing them to initiate the offense. Carson has taken care of the ball well, with 7.6 APG through 5 games, but an astounding AST/TO ratio of 19. Catawba has gotten a steal in both of them, and the dynamic duo will look to take their scoring and playmaking to the collegiate level.
Bowden is someone who’s been off to a scorching start for UFCA this year, averaging 6.8 assists through 11 games so far on the season. His 2.68 AST/TO ratio is impressive for a guy who is asked to create with the ball in his hands as both a scorer and a playmaker, as he’s been able to average almost 17 PPG alongside his assist numbers. With multiple D1 offers already, it’s only a matter of time before more coaches come calling his way.
Hammonds is another guy who’s had an impressive beginning to the year, dishing out 55 dimes over 7 games, and sporting an AST/TO ratio of 3.44. He’s a stat-stuffing point guard that does the dirty work as well as the highlight-reel plays you’d expect from a team leader. With Ardrey Kell off to a 5-3 start on the year, Hammonds should be picking up more interest from college coaches sooner than later.
Mckoy is a smaller guard, but it’s not impacted his ability to be a floor general and lead his team. His 38 assists in 7 games lead his conference, and a 2.24 AST/TO ratio have made him a key part of Trask’s above .500 start. He’s severely underrated for what he can do, coming out of Eastern NC, but he’s got collegiate level playmaking and offensive abilities. JuCo and NAIA programs would be wise to reach out.
Burnette is a name that has been impressive in the Triangle area as a playmaker, notching 30 assists over his teams first 6 game. With an AST/TO ratio of 2.73, he’s shown he can be trusted to take care of the ball and play within himself on a nightly basis. With 2 JuCo offers already under his belt, his play should inspire more to get involved.
