Forsythe was able to be an early spark for his team with his ability to consistently make open threes. When the game was close in the first half he was able to hit three straight threes to open up the lead for the team. In the second half, he pretty much stayed steady with knocking down shots and being aggressive in getting to the basket. What made the difference was his defensive intensity and not allowing some of the opposing team’s guards to get where they wanted on the floor.
Lewis was a constant problem throughout the tournament. He did a great job scoring when he was called upon and getting down in the lane to help his team consistently secure defensive rebounds. Throughout the three-day tournament, he consistently had double teams sent at him that he accepted but didn’t allow to rattle him and keep him from making the right plays. I think his best position at the next level will be playing point guard because of his ability to always put his teammates in the right spot to score.
Highlights
Nickson is a guy that can play multiple positions he spent a bunch of time bringing the basketball up for his club and was able to initiate the offense for them. Whenever a mismatch happened, he was able to give the ball up and go post up the smaller defender to make something positive for his team. At one point in the game, he was able to come down the court and pull up from the three-point line with a hand in his face and had no issues knocking it down.
Potts is a guy that I like to call a hard hat guy. He does all the things that help your team win basketball games. He rebounds at a very high clip and even if he can’t get to the rebound he always tips it to a space where one of his teammates can get to it. When looking at Potts his physical presence reminds you more of a football player instead of a basketball player and he uses this to his advantage on the defensive side well by boxing out bigger opponents and keeping them from dominating his team.
Sowards is a guy I like to call Mr. Consistent as he is always going to hit a few threes, get a few baskets around the rim, and get to the free-throw line as well. He consistently creates mismatch issues because he is a bigger forward who can also put the ball on the floor but loves to pull the defender out to the three-point line because of his ability to shoot them. Sowards is a guy who is very silent with what he does and I think can fit in many different systems at the next level because of his ability to play so freely on both ends of the basketball court.
Gudell is a guy who is a great compliment to a penetrating guard. Throughout the tournament, he loved to rotate to the corner for catch and shot threes. He does a great job of moving without the basketball and always knows when to cut to the rim. When you run him off the three-point line he has a nice one-dribble pull-up that he can go to consistently.
Sage is a guy that you need on your team to win. He is great at setting on ball screens to get the ball handler open and does just as good of a job setting off the ball screens as well. He can shoot the three-pointer well enough which makes you have to respect his ability which gives his teammates opportunities to get to the basket because of him pulling the bigger player out to the perimeter to guard him. Sage is a guy who doesn’t mind going to rebound the ball once the shot has been put up and this helps his team get the ball up the court.
Highlights
Adams is a guy who showed flashes of what can be if he continues to improve over the next year. With his big frame, he has a presence to block shots and be a rim protector, run the lane and catch lobs, and can be the relief man in bringing up the ball if his guards aren’t available. He does things on the court that make you go wow at times and as he continues to get better I think he can end up having one of the better careers in basketball out of all the kids that played in the TOC this year. Adams is a rare talent that college coaches need to get on now before it’s too late.
