The skilled scorer from the 918 has crossed the 1500 points mark for his high school career, and that’s a whole lot of buckets. Fittingly, he gets them in just about every way possible. And he’s scored while consistently being the focal point of the opposing defense. At one point this year he was even triangle and two-d. Yes, a team dedicated two defenders and chose to play 3 on 4, because Lewis is that much of a scoring threat.
In one of the biggest stages to showcase his talent at the Tournament of Champions this year, the senior put on an absolute clinic with an explosive third quarter against Metro Christian. Deep threes, floaters and even a dash of playmaking, it was one of his very best performances against quality competition. Lewis holds offers from many of the JuCos in Oklahoma and around the region, because they too recognize the importance his scoring brings.

Lewis was a constant problem throughout the tournament. He did a great job scoring when he was called upon and getting down in the lane to help his team consistently secure defensive rebounds. Throughout the three-day tournament, he consistently had double teams sent at him that he accepted but didn’t allow to rattle him and keep him from making the right plays. I think his best position at the next level will be playing point guard because of his ability to always put his teammates in the right spot to score.

It was the perfect bounce back performance from last night’s loss for the explosive scoring senior. Early on when the Hale offense was lagging, it was big three pointers that kept their head above water. Then he exploded in the third frame to give his team a double digit lead with 8 minutes remaining. The scoring came in bunches and with variety, as any “microwave” scorer should. One of the best moments came to close out the third, when he attacked hitting a floater with about 40 seconds remaining. Then with the horn about to sound, he closed it out with a dagger stepback, above the break three. Cold blooded play from one of the best scorers in the state.
Two other aspects stood out beyond Lewis’ scoring. First was the 6 assists, he’s playing with his head up in transition and in general is more of a combo guard than the off the ball, score first attacker he was as an underclassmen. The second was him growing throughout the game on the defensive end. There were a couple moments where Lewis was isolated by a more physical guard, and he gave up easy scores. While it was a sign he’ll need to get stronger at the next level, the senior battled through it and adjusted. He ended up forcing a pair of second half turnovers by using his quick hands and timing to knock the ball loose when isolated. Tenacity and girt, two important aspects to grow as a defender.
It was a complete performance for one of the state’s best seniors and the box score back it up as he finished with 30 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.

While it wasn’t the best showing for his squad in that early season contest, there were some very promising signs in the development of Lewis. He’s always played fast and hard, but now he seems more calm and controlled when attacking even at pace. One example came with his willingness giving it up and trusting his teammates to get it back for better looks. But also impressively is the way he navigated the extra defensive attention he often drew on drives. He was consistently able to find pockets of space to get his shot off, especially in the mid-range.

After routinely being one of the best scorers in Oklahoma while Hale was a 5A program, Lewis will now look to establish as one of the premier scorers in 4A. It shouldn’t be difficult for the hard playing guard, who’s just as likely to hit back to back threes from deep as he is to find ways to navigate traffic with a crafty scoring game. Look for Lewis to continue to develop his playmaking skills to go along with his complete scoring package, as Hale attempts to make their first State Tournament appearance since 1998.

One of the top scorers in Oklahoma, Lewis proved his scoring can travel after putting up strong numbers with Crab5, a Texas program on the UA Rise Circuit. The scoring ability and energy he plays with has turned him into a priority for junior colleges in particular, which could offer a path way to even the Division One level. A state tournament appearance and competing for a Gold Ball so far has eluded Lewis, which are both are attainable for the dynamic scorer.

is a lethal scorer at all three levels: knocking down threes, hitting mid-range jumpers, and finishing at the rim. He made a name for himself throughout the season this past year for doing this and he brought it to the showcase, where he knocked down a barrage of threes. He hit a corner three over a shot contest, hit a corner three in transition, and had a nice play. The nice play was where he pumpfaked, took a one dribble side step, and drained the three as the defender flew by. Multiple times he finished in transition, even in traffic. Offense was not the only place that he made an impact, as he grabbed a couple of rebounds and played great perimeter defense. He showed that he has good hands by knocking the ball away from the ball handler to force a turnover. All of this is from one game. If you need scoring and shot making, this might be your guy.

Lewis is a kid that has been covered by me before. His ability to get to the whole and finish with authority is something that has increased over the past few months. What I have enjoyed about his game that has improved the most is his ability to willingly get his teammates involved. In the past, he was okay forcing shots but now he always seems to make the right basketball play for his team. I think at the next level his best position will be the point guard because it will allow him to be able to see over defenses better and put him in a position to score as well.

One of the hardest playing prospects in the state, Lewis is non stop as an attacker on offense. He can rack up makes from beyond the arc in a hurry, especially off the dribble. But he’s more than just a sniper, his handle has continued to improve. He has a tight crossover and good hesitation moves, giving him a slippery like quality when knifing to the rim.
Lewis’ recruitment has started to gain momentum in recent weeks. Given the recent trend of under looked 918 prospect going JuCo to D1, the Hale Ranger could be the next in line.
